Busy Signal was taken aback when he learnt that the collaborative effort Automatic which features veteran reggae singer Marcia Griffiths, had entered Germany's R&B Singles chart at number 34. "I am really surprised and I never expected this to happen," Busy said in an interview yesterday.

Marcia Griffiths

The single had been creating waves in sections of Europe, where it has already made strides on reggae charts in the UK.

The collaboration with Griffiths came about by accident, according to Busy. "I was down by Penthouse one day with Germain and Marcia was there and we decided to do the song. I have admired her work for a long time and I have listened to her since I was a child so it was a great opportunity. It's a nice little song for the mature crowd."

Asked if he had any nervous moments while recording the song in the studio, Busy said "I didn't have any nervous moments, but it was more of a learning experience for me. We put in a lot of work on this song."

This is not the first time that Griffiths, a former member of Bob Marley's backing group the I Three has recorded songs with a current dancehall artiste. In the 1990's she did Things Not So Right and Half Idiot with Tony Rebel. She also collaborated with Buju Banton and later on she scored a chart hit with a remake of the song All My Life which featured singer Da'Ville.

Plans for an accompanying music video for Automatic are currently being hammered out.

Chart Updates

Serani's No Games continues to make inroads on the charts. Over to Germany's R&B Singles chart, No Games moves up from 16 to 8. In the US, the track slips from 64 to 67 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart.
The Billboard R&B Singles chart is being led by Jamie Foxx's Blame It which features T Pain.

Da'Ville's Missing You Right Now is the number one song on the Reggae Chart in St Croix Virgin Islands, while over to Media Guide (which tracks the most played and most popular reggae songs across America), the top single is I Feel Good by Beres Hammond.
Laden shines bright across the Caribbean, as his Time to Shine takes over the number one spot on the Caribbean Hot 30 countdown.

Shaggy's Bad Man Don't Cry is the top song on the Canada Reggae chart as well as the BBC 1Xtra Dancehall chart.

She recently gave birth to a bouncing baby girl, but Trinidad's Fay Ann Lyons continues to reign at the top of several Caribbean charts. Heavy T is the top song on Toronto Lime.com which tracks the hottest tracks across the Caribbean, while over in Barbados, Lyons is number one with Superblue.

Elephant Man starts the race with Nuh Linga
Elephant Man has registered yet another single on Billboard's R&B Hip Hop Singes & Tracks chart. Nuh Linga which topped the charts here in Jamaica last year, has debuted at number 100 on the urban tally.

Nuh Linga was released on the Board House label, and it was later licensed by VP Records for its Strictly the Best Volume 39 series.

Previous Elephant Man titles to have charted on the Billboard charts include Pon Di River Pon Di Bank, Jook Gal (Wine Wine), Signal De Plane, Father Elephant, Willie Bounce, Shake That Body featuring PI, Whine Up featuring Kat Deluna, and All Night (Don't Stop) with Janet Jackson.
