Marley brothers Julian and Stephen; Tarrus Riley; the Cool Ruler, Gregory Isaacs; Queen Ifrica; and Buju Banton are among the 39 artistes whose albums have been submitted for Reggae Grammy consideration.

The list, which was released last week, is quite a diverse one and contains three more than last year's submissions. While, for the most part, the artistes whose works have been submitted represent reggae, hardcore dancehall act Mavado (Mr Brooks . A Better Tomorrow) also gets some attention. Representing for the females, in addition to Queen Ifrica (Montego Bay) are Ce'Cile (Waiting) and Lady G, whose self-produced Rated G was released just in time to catch the close-off date of August 31, 2009.

Grammy Kid Sean Paul's Imperial Blaze has also been submitted, as has Inner Circle's State of Da World.

Sizzla's Ghetto Youthology, I Can Feel Your Pain by Gyptian, Jah Cure's Universal Cure, Justice by Lutan Fyah and Fantan Mojah's Stonger are among the contenders for the all-important short list.

Among the non-Jamaicans representing on the submissions list are Easy All Stars - not surprisingly, since their Easy Stars Lonely Hearts Dub Band has virtually dominated the Billboard Reggae Album Chart - The Aggrolites, De Apostle, Rebelution and Westbound Train.

Other acts whose albums are also under consideration are Terry Ganzie, Terry Linen, Prezident Brown, Mikey Spice, TOK and Glen Washington.

Interestingly, absent from this list are Ziggy Marley's Family Time and B Is For Bob by Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Now in its 52nd staging, the Grammy Awards has been moved up from its usual February date to the end of January, thus shortening the eligibility period of submissions by one month. The eligibility period ran from October 1, 2008 - August 31, 2009.

The ceremony takes place on January 31, 2010 at the Staples Centre in downtown Los Angeles, as it has for the past several years.
