Giglio called it Old World-New World Smackdown and took participants on a snob-free wine journey with Louis Latour Puligny-Montrachet Burgundy 2003, Levendi Chardonnay 'Red Hen Vineyard' Napa Valley 2003, J Moreau & Fils Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rhone 2006, Penfolds Koonunga Hills Shiraz, Southeast Australia 2005, Barton & Gustier Saint-Emilion Bordeaux 2004 and Schweiger Merlot Spring, Mountain District Napa 2002.
Wine sommelier and journalist Anthony Giglio grew up in a family that considered wine an integral part of every meal. In fact, he had his first sip at the age of seven from a gallon of Carlo Rossi Burgundy. Giglio studied with the New York chapter of the Sommelier Society of America and earned a Diploma in Service in 1992, but rather than head for the service floor, he headed straight for the word processor, applying his passion to writing in wine publications as diverse as Food & Wine, Esquire, Details, Redbook and Time Out New York .
Today, Giglio writes the monthly Liquids column in Boston Magazine and is the Nightlife editor at Wine & Spirits. He also broadcasts the daily Connoisseur Corner wine report on CBS Radio's Boston affiliate. His works have been cited in the New York Times, New York Daily News, New York Post, USA Today and Readers' Digest.
