'STUNTIN' FOR LIFE'
Observer Reporter
Tuesday, April 13, 2004

Many uninitiated persons presume pro skaters and trick riders to be hormonally-overloaded teens or late teens at best, but the members of the Pro-Impact team, out of Los Angeles, who performed for Jamaicans over the holiday weekend, blew that myth apart. Bill "Dr Skateboard" Robertson has a PhD in Education (hence the title) to go with his many tournament wins. The other members of the team are also in their third decade of stunt wheels. Although they are full-time athletes, they also pursue other interests. Biker Billy Garywich shoots and produces videos (including the team's performances) which he markets.

How do they managae to continue competitively and doing dangerous stunts into their 30s? A consistent fitness regimen, including cross-training, helps to forestall some accidents while safety gear and common sense help to minimise the impact of those accidents that do occur.

Still it's their passion for the sport that keeps them going, a passion that's evident as they race between ramps or flip in mid-air. Who says you can't have fun while making a living?
