Show more respect
Corey Robinson, Observer TeenAge writer
Tuesday, January 04, 2005

Societies often judge persons by the occupation they have. Thus a doctor would be more respected than a street sweeper or a garbage collector. I do not support this notion as I feel that a person should be respected for the service he provides, no matter the salary his job brings.

Every job has its purpose. If there were no garbage collectors we would struggle to get rid of our garbage and might even create a health hazard. As far as I am concerned no profession once legal can be demeaning.

Not everyone has the opportunity or finances to attend university or even a prominent high school. Not everyone can study long enough to get a degree. My wish for Jamaica in 2005 is for people to stop the discrimination against these persons.

As for myself, I hope to be a better person, better as an individual, better with my school work and better in understanding and dealing with people. I hope that all my actions during this year will be beneficial to my country and its citizens. I think if we all work together Jamaica can be a wonderful place.
