Sony Ericsson in Jamaica

Check this out Chris... Mariana Quintana, Marketing Manager for Sony Ericsson shows West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle, the new Sony Ericsson W800 Walkman(TM) phone.

TeenAge raps with Marketing Manager Mariana Quintana. In an interview with Mariana Quintana, Marketing Manager for Sony Ericsson in the Caribbean & Latin America, TeenAge got a look at the hot new Sony Ericsson W800 walkman phone. Quintana also spoke about mobile technology trends in general and little about mobile phone giant Sony Ericsson.

According to Quintana, it's "the style, rich features and its user-friendly format, the advantage of having Sony, the number one electronics company on your side," that makes the Sony Ericsson brand so unique. Sony Ericsson is a combination of the two companies Sony (electronics giant) and Ericsson. The formation of Sony Ericsson was a strategic decision that combined the strengths of each company.
Ericsson maintained its strong mobile infrastructure while Sony had consumer insight and electronic expertise.
She added that Sony Ericsson has a vested interest in Jamaica because our market "is more tech savvy, many Jamaicans have multiple phones and the market is growing quickly".

And when one looks at the number of teenage cellular phone users, the number is almost surprising. Quintana explained that the ability to send text messages, maintain privacy, and the convenience of making calls offer a sense of independence and this might account for the cell phone explosion among Jamaican teens.

When asked what determines the price of mobile phones Quintana explained that cell phone prices are kept up to maintain their integrity, so as not to jeopardise the manufacturer's name. The costs are also determined by the evolution of technology, consumer wants and subsidies, if any, by operators.

Sony Ericsson is working on hot new technology for the future. According to Quintana, the company is working on video conferencing, bandwidth expansion, which would mean faster downloads; mobile wallet where a phone could be used as a wallet and linked to a bank account; and 'Play Now', a feature that would allow Sony Ericsson users to preview games and videos on their phones.
