Students and other individuals seeking higher education abroad will be presented with greater opportunities to do so at Eduventures, Jamaica's first annual international education fair, launched last week at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

"The idea came about because of the need to provide and expand opportunities for those wishing to seek higher education overseas," said an excited Aldain Reid, Chairman of the events planning committee. The fair will feature 30 universities from the United States, Jamaica, the United Kingdom, Venezuela and Canada, and is supported by the Canadian High Commision, the Venezulan Embassy and the British Council.

Special information sessions pertaining to undergraduate and postgraduate admission requirements, scholarships, college loans and other similar queries will be addressed by advisors from the participating countries.

Individuals wishing to pursue studies in Venezuela should be aware that they need to have a good command of Spanish to be eligible for the programmes that are being offered, explained Madai Hernandez, Deputy Counsellor of the Venezuelan Embassy. She also emphasised that her country has a tradition of higher education in 150 universities.

The three-day event is scheduled for October 4th - 5th, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, and on the 7th of October at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Montego Bay. The fair will run from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily. Admission fee is $50.00 for students in uniform, and $100.00 for all others. Further details are available at the company's website (www.edu.jam).
