Round 3 play begins with high-scoring matches
KFC QUIZ SHOW REPORT

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

Last week viewers witnessed the exciting start of play in Round 3 of the 2007 KFC Quiz Show competition, as the first two matches were aired on CVM-TV on Tuesday and Thursday, April 17 and April 19.

Tuesday's Match: Holy Childhood Prep vs Morris Knibb Prep

The 'Icebreaker' segment saw Holy Childhood taking an early lead in this match, when they answered four questions correctly and earned eight points in response to Morris Knibb's four points. But Morris Knibb moved their overall score up to six points when their resource panel correctly answered a two-point question from the Pizza Hut segment of the Sponsors' Wheel. The teams then posted 16 points each in the 'Double the Fun' segment and this meant that Holy Childhood Prep remained slightly ahead on 24 points, with Morris Knibb on 22. The 'Captain's Quest' corrected that situation when the Morris Knibb captain added 3 points to the team's score, compared to 1 point added by the Holy Childhood captain. and both teams entered the final 'Let's Buzz' segment locked on 25 points. This seemed to give Morris Knibb the incentive needed to push for victory and the team logged an impressive 18 points in the segment, compared to six points posted by Holy Childhood. The match ended with Holy Childhood on a commendable 31 points, but with Morris Knibb on an imposing 43 points. Morris Knibb therefore became the first team into the Quarter Finals for 2007.

Thursday's Match: Ardenne Prep vs Hydel Prep

Having every intention of keeping the momentum high, these two schools provided viewers with another exciting half hour of television on April 19.

The 'Icebreaker' segment helped to set the tone for the nail-biting competition that was to follow, as there were only two points separating the teams when the segment ended with Ardenne on eight points and Hydel on six. With the 'Double the Fun' segment offering the chance for each team to score four points for each correct answer, Ardenne earned 20 points but Hydel bettered this by scoring 28 points. At the close of the first two segments, the scores read Hydel 34, Ardenne 28. That six-point lead was reduced by two in the 'Captain's Quest' when Ardenne earned three points to the 1 point earned by Hydel and the teams entered the 'Let's Buzz' segment with Hydel was on 35 and Ardenne on 31. But the buzz stayed with Ardenne who gained another 12 points in that segment while Hydel added four. The final scores therefore read: Ardenne Prep 43, Hydel Prep 39. and Ardenne had a place in the fourth round.

The competition continues this evening, April 24, at 5:05 pm on CVM-TV when St Hugh's Prep takes on Watsonton Primary. And on Thursday, April 26, also at 5:05 pm, Brown's Town Primary will play St Theresa Prep.
