RE-TV's musical messengers

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Crowd pleaser Busy Signal thrills his adoring fans.

It's back! The RE-TV High School Tour, that is, and with full force. Preaching the theme of 'Abstinence: It's Your Right', last week the tour visited the girls on Constant Spring Road - Merl Grove High School.

This year RE-TV split the artistes up, because so many artistes signed up for the tour. So another list of artistes will be on the tour in February. This year, the RE-TV tour's main purpose is to encourage abstinence, educate students about sexually transmitted infections, teenage pregnancy and influence positive behaviour change. And when we say they do all that through the eclectic line up... we mean it!
The tour kicked off with a brief talk from the principal of Merl Grove High School and also from 'Belinda', the HIV Representative.

The first performance was by new artiste Javaughn. The 15-year-old had all the girls screaming while he performed his song Rich Yute Mentality, which is off his upcoming album being released next month.

The hot, sexy, and now redheaded Tessanne Chin, rocked the house with her new single Blackbooks, and had the crowd moving.

When the strains of the next track started, Chin told the crowd, "If you know this one, sing along". And as the beat ascended, the girls roared in delight and sang Hideaway word for word.

Sisters in the dancehall superstars: Brick & Lace stepped up and came out in full force, singing their international hit Never Never, as well as their latest single Love is Wicked! The ladies performed sensationally with their sexy dance moves and hot attitude. We have to say the girls were looking very fashionable in their outfits!

Christopher Martin, 2005 Digicel Rising Star winner and newcomer to the Tour, did a great job reeling in the ladies. He brought one special girl on stage and serenaded her, sending the girl into music heaven. The girl could not contain her excitement.

Winner of the TEENage Choice Award: Zip 103 Best New Artiste, Bugle, came out singing his hit What am Gonna Do. Leftside aka Dr Evil had the girls going mad, many of them could not control their excitement as he performed.

Another TEENage Choice Award winner, Busy Signal, stole the show. He had the girls screaming before he took the stage. When the song The Days emanated from the boom boxes, the crowd reached fever-pitch.

The girls got the point and sang along, he also performed his first hit Step out. His exit was just the simple beat of the mega-hit Jail, the Sell-Off Tune of the Year and the whole auditorium was on their feet.

The Dancehall trio and TEENage Choice Awards winning group for Best Dressed Male Artistes, Voice Mail, surprised the girls by entering through the audience, which had the ladies of Merl Grove pushing to get a touch of the superstars.

Of course, they got carried away, but Mack Quad Body Guards were there to get the group on stage. They sang hits like Bembe, and Gangsta Rock. They brought out new singer Delicious, who got a nice welcome from the ladies as she got the crowd going with her ladies hit, Don't Push It!

The tour ended with the artistes coming on stage and taking pictures with 10 lucky young ladies who won a draw earlier in the day to meet all the artistes.

We spoke to the girls from Brick & Lace, Nailah: "It's been so much fun. So far, I have to say Merl Grove have vibes.
Nyanda: "It's a fun way to spend our Wednesday afternoons, we like the family vibe on the bus and the school had vibes."

We also spoke to Tessanne Chin, about how the tour was without her sister Tami and also about the new artistes on the tour. "I miss her on and off the tour, but I am representing. I'm always glad to see new people on the tour!'

Check out the TEENage for next week's school, who knows, they might pop in to yours.
