Best of the Best '07
Sherilla Gordon
Tuesday, January 08, 2008

Last year was a very busy year for Jamaica's fashion and entertainment industries and TEENage brought you, weekly coverage of the happenings and trends. This week TEENage brings you the best in fashion and entertainment for the year 2007.

Best in Fashion
While several superb trends emerged throughout the year, it took fabulous people to pull them off. If you are among the fabulous, here are some of the fashion trends that you helped to make hot.

Skinny Jeans - At parties, on the mall and even at our universities, skinny jeans (on slim people), were the order of the day.

Open-toed pumps - These were mostly seen on the party scene, and paired with skinny jeans, they were a hit.
Hoodies/pull-overs - They didn't really make much sense during the hot days of the summer (for obvious reasons) but when the nights were cool, hoodies and pull-overs were even cooler, especially those that were brightly coloured and had patterns and designs on them.

Best Female Singer
Songbird Alaine was not only one of the sweetest personalities, but was also known for her beautiful love songs throughtout 2007. Alaine Haughton wowed us with songs such as Rise in love and Sacrifice copping a TEENage Choice Award and the best female singer for 2007.

Best Male Singer
Tarrus Riley was the 'culture don' of the year with a number of hits including Beware, She's Royal and a rendition of John Legend's Stay with you.

Best Female DJ
Money-O! Money goddess Macka Diamond ruled 2007 with her sexy new body and her sultry dance moves. From Hoola hoop to Dandy shandy she is the real deal and will continue to log onto the hits in 2008.

Best Male DJ
Busy Signal copped this title with flying colours with his never-ending versatility throughout the year, spitting out hit after hit. Jail, Pon di edge, Rise and Beat, Every Machine and The Days are just a few of his hits that rocked the streets and the air-waves in 2007.

Best Song
Oooooh, this one was close. With so many hits in 2007 it was hard to choose just one, but alas, we have a tie between Busy Signal's Jail and Tarrus Riley's She's Royal.

Best New Artiste
Although she made her debut in the music industry in 2006 with the sing Wrong address, Reggae princess Etana emerged in 2007 with a strong, positive and uplifting message for the nation with her song Roots. The welcoming acceptance and heavy rotation of this song not only earned her a TEENage Choice Award, but also TEENage's best new artiste of 2007.

Best Riddim
With producers releasing riddims with a number of 'sell-off' tunes almost every two weeks, TEENage had to put some serious thought into this category. At the end of 2007, however, it was Arif 'Supa Coop' Cooper's Guardian Angel riddim that copped the title. Almost every song on this riddim made it onto the charts. These included Vybz Kartel's Missing you alot, Voicemail's Best days of my life, and Alaine's We rise and Tami Chynn's Over and Over Again, just to name a few.

Best producer
Well, it's actually a production house, but DASECA, consisting of brothers David and Craig Harrisingh and Craig 'Serani' Marsh were responsible for producing a number of 2007's chart and club rockers. These included What I'm gonna do and Journey by Bugle, Busy Signal's The Days and Doh by Serani and Bugle, just to name a few.

Best Video
Despite being surrounded by gossip and controversy, dancehall diva D'Angel channelled her energy into making the year's best video by far, Blaze. Directed by Kimala "Lala" Bennett, the video presented D'Angel with international flair.

Best Party Experience
The battle continued as party promoters faced-off once again to rule the sands of Negril. This battle earned the ATI & RTI Weekends TEENage's best party experience for 2007 as those who attended party-hopped to their hearts content.

Best Dance
It seemed to be the Willy Bounce of 2007 after its release, but Tek Weh Yuhself, became more popular after Vegas' song of the same name. After that, it was almost instinctive to do the dance to any song, provided it was not another dancing song, of course.

Best come-back artiste
It seems to be what he does best, as Erup made his come back at the last part of the year with the Christmas hit Click Mi Finger. The song dominated the airwaves and not matter wher the song was played, people were observed clicking their fingers.

Best 'Walk-Out' Tune
Bubble Like Soup! When heard it was almost instinctive for every female at a party to 'walk-out' upon hearing those three words. Female dancehall artiste Timberlee had the best 'walk out' tune for 2007.

Best Collaboration
Daseca's Serani and Bugle came together at the latter part of year to create 2007's best collaboration with the hit Doh. This song ruled the sessions as this was the anthem for every patron with enemies present.

2007's Bubblers
With top parties come top bubblers, that drew males and females together to enter into the age old activity of dancing. Here are TEENage's 2007 top bubblers.
Pon Di Edge - Busy Signal
Wine pon you - Vybz Kartel
Sexy Seductive Wine - Vybz Kartel
