'Guys, shave your legs if you must...'

GUYS, just being born male won't cut it when it comes to pleasing your lady, despite the fact that your buddies may have told you that men are short, and women are willing to take whatever they get.

Fact is, many women aren't willing to settle, and if you're not amenable to a bit of tweaking here and there, chances are you'll be the one in bed at 40, the male version of the old maid, on the phone with your buddies, wailing when you can't find somebody to love you.

In just the same way some men insist that women need to be well put together to be dateable, it's the same that we require of men, we're just too nice to say it, most times.

The women below weren't shy to spill, however, so here goes: Guys how can you make yourself more attractive to women?

Julie-Ann Gray, website product marketer:

Little things like personal hygiene — he should make sure he brushes his teeth, his hair is groomed, he takes a shower and smells good. He doesn't have to wear brand names but he should dress nicely. Having your pants below your waist is a big turn off!

Don't be overly funny, but have a good sense of humour. Women enjoy that. Also, don't be too egotistic.

Sylvia Lee, student:

Trim the nails, trim the stray hairs. Guys, shave your legs if you must. No forests round here! Hey, P Diddy advocates being well groomed! He needs to smell good. Smell is important!

Nardia Freeman, accountant:

He should portray himself as someone willing to listen to a woman and offer advice without any strings attached. Our society is lacking in caring and sensitive men who have our best interests at heart, men who are not just into you for sex.

Antoinette Bogle, dental assistant:

Take care of your body and not just the muscles. Get a manicure and pedicure now and then so you don't tear up my sheets with your long finger or toenails and crusty feet. Invest in good trimmers, good plucking tools, so you don't look like a Neanderthal. Don't come to me with the illiterate 'man don't do that' kinda talk. That's the biggest turn-off.

Lisa Martin, teacher:

He should be real, be able to fit into any crowd. He should have good deportment and good communication skills and should be ambitious. Women find these things attractive in men.

Sophia Long, advertiser:

He should dress well and be well groomed from head to toe. When he opens his mouth you should hear that he has a level of intelligence and reasoning ability. The man should believe that being married not only means having a legal vagina at his beck and call, but should respect commitment and family. Oh, and he should have clean fingernails irrespective of the job he does.

Shanice Wright, payroll clerk:

A man can make himself more attractive by being a gentleman, opening doors for women, etc.

Offer to do little things for her like getting her car washed, fixing something you hear her complain has been broken for a while, and stuff like that. Women are suckers for caring men.

Alphea Saunders, media practitioner:

Get a job if you don't yet have one. Dress well and wear good shoes (I have a personal thing for shoes). Be real. Don't pretend to be some that you are not and above all, be honest.
