IT’S New Year’s Eve and there are always a few things we think about before starting a new year - 1) How did the time fly so fast? 2) I’m going to make this year count! 3) Who am I going to spend New Year’s Eve with, and where?
We tend to go these questions over and over again and then make an entire list of ‘resolutions’ we never seem able to keep. So this New Year’s Eve, instead of making two pages worth of these resolutions we never keep, I say let’s make three key ones we know we can and should keep.
Instead of focusing on ourselves this year, let’s make a promise to give back. Even if it’s one act of volunteering, let’s pick a cause, a person, an organisation, or an act (drop off some clothes, food, supplies) that helps someone else.
Don’t take life so seriously
Enjoy it! We are surrounded by stress, and we never stop to take the time to embrace our life, so instead of focusing on all the negatives and the excessive worrying, let’s focus on the positive. Each day we have is a gift and not a guarantee. So try new things (I have), laugh more often (especially at yourself) and connect with those who matter in your life (keep in touch).
Forget the rush to sign up for multiple gym memberships, the fad diets or the weight loss pills - instead, set some reasonable goals then get out there and achieve them. Regular exercise, staying focused on achieving your fitness goals, and eating properly will help you get that weight in check, and along with it, your mood and blood pressure will improve.
I am making a commitment to these three resolutions for 2013. Yes, I may have a slight advantage with one of them, but don’t blame the messenger! I hope you’ll join me in sticking to them for the next 365 days and if we add one or two more along the way, even better! Have a safe, happy and blessed New Year.
