Representative from Women's Media Watch Hilary Nicholson (right) makes a point to Senator Sandrea Falconer, minister with responsibility for information, at the recent meeting of the interdisciplinary committee established by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to address gender-based violence. The Jamaica House meeting reviewed a compendium of local and international recommendations to reduce the scourge of violence against women and children. The agreed list of priorities critical in the fight against gender-based violence is: public education and training; shelter; sustainable livelihoods; and gender and institutional strengthening.
