Ann Scott is the new high commissioner to Nigeria
MINISTER of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, Senator AJ Nicholson, has announced the appointment of Ann Scott as the new High Commissioner to Nigeria.
This is Scott's first head of mission appointment, as she replaces High Commissioner Robert Miller who was posted to Abuja, Nigeria in 2008.
Scott is a career diplomat, having entered the Jamaican Foreign Service in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in languages, linguistics, international economic relations and Caribbean issues.
The high commissioner-designate has, since 2005, been the deputy permanent representative, permanent mission of Jamaica to the Organisation of American States (OAS) in Washington, DC, where she promoted Jamaica's interests in the Inter-American system, and managed the daily operations of the mission.
Prior to her posting in Washington, DC, Scott was the assistant director of the Caribbean and Americas department (1998-2005), at the New Kingston headquarters.
From 1995-1998, the high commissioner-designate was the deputy high commissioner to Ottawa, Canada and from 1988-1995, she was first secretary and then counsellor, permanent mission of Jamaica to the United Nations, New York.
Scott is married to Michael and they have a son.
