Living goddesses
Monday, January 02, 2012
KATMANDU, Nepal — Nepal's living goddesses, locally known as Kumari, attend the annual cleaning ritual of deity Machhendranath or god of rain in Katmandu here yesterday. Living goddesses are worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists. Selected as toddlers, they usually keep their positions until they reach puberty. (Photo: AP)
