Making a success of the 'balancing act' in 2012
Young Mummy Diaries
Monday, January 09, 2012
It's now more than a week into 2012 and I still can't believe it's a new year. I mean, this year my son will be nine years old, my elder daughter turns six years old and the 'baby' will be three years old — all later down in the year, but still... boy has time passed!
Now that we have been blessed with a new year, the buzz word is 'resolution' and we ask ourselves, what do we want to change? What don't we want? What we do want to achieve? And even more questions.
The start of a new year has always given people hope that they can begin a new slate. I mean, we all have hopes and dreams and a new year really gets us to refocus.
As mothers, and parents on a whole, we have a lot on our plates — whether we are expecting, have one child or more than five. And although the responsibility levels may differ, we still have to give the 'balancing act' a go.
The trick is to be able to do it as best as possible, and that's the real challenge, but it is doable. I want us to really take a look at our lives as parents to see what we can improve on, eliminate or what new challenge we can take on in order to assist us in taking our lives to a higher and more meaningful level.
My wish for us as mothers for 2012 is that we really dig deep into our beings — the powerful beings that we are — and activate that strength within to get to where we really want to be in life. We all have our individual goals that we want to achieve and we can. Let us not allow 2012 to end and we are stuck in the same place.
We should also challenge our children to do the same, no matter their age. If we have a small child, we can work with them to have a better attitude as behaviours are learned. For our children at school, we can encourage them to take on a brand new activity — whether after school or at the weekend — or introduce them to a charitable organisation. The ideas are limitless.
Despite the hard financial times, this is the time to really exercise those things that are innate in us — the 'gut feeling' things that we have been scared to attempt; the things we oh so badly want to change about ourselves and inspire our children as we inspire ourselves. This type of positive energy is so contagious; it just depends on you.
I challenge us to change our outlook to a more positive one, I encourage you to write down all the things you want for you, your children, your family overall, and your career.
Let me start by sharing with you a few of the items on my wish list for 2012:
* Cultivate a closer relationship with God.
* Create more time to spend with children.
* Make more money.
* Travel more as a family.
Have a blessed, prosperous, fulfilling, happy new year!
Happy Mothering from me to you!
