Stringing You Along — Pearls for Every Occasion
Countdown to Valentine's Day
Monday, February 07, 2011
What's more romantic than a delicate hand-strung pearl necklace, or bracelet? It was the jewellery of choice for style icon Jackie O and is an absolute must for US First Lady Michelle Obama. Pearls have since 2008 found favour with Alicia Hussey of Islandgems who has been creating handsome strands, for the sophisticated woman.
"A confident woman wears an Islandgems piece," Hussey says, "especially the larger, bolder pieces. Our clients include mature, cultured and educated women."
Now located at the Sovereign Centre in Liguanea, the boutique specialises in gemstones and pearls — freshwater and cultured pearls — and Hussey herself designs jewellery and does pearl knotting for persons who bring in their own gemstones and pearls, family heirlooms or sentimental pieces that they wish to have customised.
Sunday, February 13, the day before Valentine's Day, customers will enjoy from 12noon-4:00 pm a 10% discount on all merchandise at Islandgems, along with free makeovers all day from Face Forward cosmetic boutique.
"The thing about pearls is that they are so timeless," Hussey shares. "The essence of giving a Valentine's Day gift is to immortalise the feeling, the love and how we cherish each other, and that can be given through any gemstone. Because gemstones are also timeless, they're also forever." AW concurs.
