VOWS: Love & Laughter

Monday, August 15, 2011

Lovers' rock reggae artiste Siccaturie 'Jah Cure' Alcock — son of Robert Alcock and Panseta Campbell — wed former CVM TV Onstage presenter Kamila McDonald — daughter of Errol and Kerida McDonald — in an Ethiopian Orthodox ceremony at the Tryall Club, Hanover on Sunday, August 7, 2011. Vows shares the story of their Unconditional Love...

We first got a glimpse of Siccaturie 'Jah Cure' Alcock and his lady love Kamila McDonald in 2009, with the release of the Asha McHail-directed music video for his chart-topping single Never Find. Little did we know that there was more to their unmistakable on-screen chemistry. They had met on Constant Spring Road a few months before, when Kamila was running errands and the artiste happened to spot her. He was instantly enamoured, so much so he decided to put aside his usual shyness and try to get her attention. He found himself at a loss for words for the first few seconds, but on realising that she might soon be on her way, decided to say hello. "I heard, out of nowhere, someone in a big black van saying, 'Hello, please let me speak with you for a minute'. I'm not sure what he said afterwards, but something caught my attention, and I walked over to him," Kamila told Vows. "After saying hello to her, I told her I didn't know someone like her existed, and to my surprise, she came over," Jah Cure explained. What was intended to be a brief conversation blossomed into what they describe as a comfortable, laughter-filled interaction, interrupted only by the time, as Kamila had an engagement to attend. She gave him her number and they kept in touch. Though there was no denying the chemistry between them, Kamila was still a bit hesitant to advance their relationship to the next level, that is, until they filmed the music video together. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Proposal...

... came at sunset on a beach in Ocho Rios. Two years had passed in what seemed like no time, and they were having a relaxed evening walk, talking and laughing as usual. Siccaturie started looking deeply into Kamila's eyes, and realising that his gaze intensified, she asked what was on his mind. He responded with: "Will you marry me?" Kamila was overcome with shock, and her first response was to giggle. He then produced the ring, and of course, she said, "Yes". The two were excited to share their Unconditional Love with the world, and commenced their wedding plans almost immediately.

Their Wedding...

... was a simple, elegant affair held at the Beach Hall of the Tryall Club, Hanover. The pulsating rhythms of the Nyahbinghi drums announced the arrival of the bridesmaids, outfitted by Uzuri, and the groomsmen who complemented their outfits with white suits and blue shirts. Siccaturie followed, making a stylish entrance in a Rob Anthony bespoke suit and Louis Vuitton loafers. As he took his place at the altar, the bride swanned up the aisle on her father's arm. She was the picture of beauty and grace in a figure-hugging, beaded lace Uzuri gown that cascaded gently to the floor in a short train. Her hair was styled in a regal updo by Trudy of Jus Natural, and ornamented with sun-kissed make-up by Onstage make-up artist Trudy-Ann Daley. She clutched an exquisite bouquet comprising cymbidium and dendrobium orchids as she made her way to her groom's side.

After being blessed, anointed, robed and crowned by Rastafarian elders, the two exchanged vows, sealing their love before God and man as the waves crashed against the rocks, and the sun set over the sea. The groom then dedicated a song titled This Is You to his bride, and after a few more tributes by their guests and the release of the doves; it was time to celebrate their union...

Unconditional Love...

Now husband and wife, they joined their loved ones on the lawns of the Beach Hall for the reception. Laughter filled the air as guests and members of the bridal party toasted the newly-weds, wishing them a life filled with love, happiness and children. As they enjoyed the alfresco dining experience, Jah Cure's fellow artiste Alaine serenaded the couple, and so, too, did the bride's parents, who put on quite a show. Tears filled the newly-weds' eyes as they watched a video tribute by the groom's father, who was unable to make the trip, and another by his close friend Asha McHail. There was much merriment throughout the evening, and Mr and Mrs Alcock certainly had a ball with their loved ones. As the enchanting evening drew to a close, they cut into their Scrabble-inspired rum vanilla and red velvet wedding cake by Alecia's Just Desserts, inscribed with their names and the phrase 'Unconditional Love'. The two then enjoyed their first dance to This Is You, which was penned by the groom for the occasion. They are currently enjoying time with visiting family and friends ahead of jetting off for their honeymoon in Dubai later this year.
