Claudia Pegus returned triumphantly to Jamaica and to the 2nd Caribbean Fashionweek. Inspired this time around by the unique qualities of the Jamaican woman, Claudia created "inclusive" haute couture with emphasis on sexy, sassy and sophistication. Earth tones dominate the collection this time around, but there's still the signature silhouettes and cuts. "People think of a woman of a certain age when one uses the words haute couture. I would like them to see opulence, and innocence and a woman in her 20s.

Indeed even younger... a virgin perhaps in search of the exquisite - the desire to unearth the rawness within the youthfulness. She seems to have succeeded, for in her dramatic hand-made, Moulin Rouge-inspired bustle gown, embellished with silk chiffon, feather boa neckline, and antique lace, Pegus transports us back to a time when romance, sonnets and courtship were de rigueur.

"The African in me," continues Pegus, "has facilitated this line and in particular this flesh-coloured gown with exposure without real exposure. There's emphasis on the bust, and the bottom. Let's call it Claudia Pegus pays tribute to the derriere shall we!"
The trio in black chiffon is an accidental creation.

Claudia Pegus' dramatic hand-made, Moulin Rouge-inspired bustle gown embellished with silk chiffon, feather boa neckline, and antique lace.

Created as a result of her clients in Martinique who needed a mix of formal and funk. The result are trousers not only with slits but an attitude, a seductiveness, and an appeal to the youth. The chiffon tops are fun. Wear them belted, or with ruffles.

Pegus comes to Jamaica having already sold her resort line for the year in islands such as Mustique, Martinique and Barbados. She has closed her junior shop and has gone more couture. There's still that Karl Lagerfeld influence.
Now focused on 2003, her scissors are definitely pointed at the Jamaican woman. She is in fact in search of a store to carry the line.
