Current supermodel of Jamaica and the Caribbean, Janelle Robinson, is the cover of the upcoming spring edition of She, the Caribbean's leading magazine for women. She is Janelle's first cover and her selection comes hot on the heels of her recent success at December's Supermodel of the World competition (where she narrowly missed a top 6 spot after reaching the finals of the event) and her subsequent signing to Ford the world's largest, oldest and most respected model agency.
Janelle has taken the news in stride and looks forward to the New York launch of She later this month where she will be the special guest. She is published by the St Lucia-based Star Publishing and is widely distributed in Canada, the Caribbean, the UK and now the United States.
Speaking to Janelle earlier this week, she expressed excitement about her new career and is spending the early days with Ford photo testing and doing the models' round of castings in search of early assignments.
She, in the meantime is ecstatic about the cover, which will be the image of the magazine as they launch in the US, an edition that features 18 pages of last November's Caribbean Fashionweek. Say's Mae Wayne, editor of the publication, Janelle is absolutely fantastic and we are extremely pleased with the cover.
Up to last summer, Janelle was a student of the Immaculate Conception High School in Kingston. A few months later she is a successful international model with the world's top agency, an international covergirl and the current Supermodel of Jamaica and the Caribbean. Discovered by Pulse's Kingsley Cooper, who first placed Caribbean models in the international marketplace 20 years ago, Janelle's rapid success brings back memories of another of Cooper's discoveries, Kimberly Mais, probably the Caribbean's most commercially successful international model. Other major international stars discovered by Cooper include Nikki Vassell, Angela Neil and Lois Samuels.
