Suit drive to help women dress for success
Monday, March 15, 2010
EVERY young woman wants to make a good first impression during a job interview and thanks to Dress for Success Jamaica, young, needy women will have one less thing to worry about when applying for jobs. The group -- a sister company of the non-profit organisation Dress for Success International -- has partnered with the HEART Trust NTA to serve those women who have successfully completed professional skills training and are now ready to be employed. Each of these women will be suited to attend her job interview. After she has successfully been awarded employment, she will return to Dress for Success Jamaica for additional pieces to help her build a professional wardrobe.
The international organisation -- whose mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing them with professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to thrive in work and in life -- has helped to boost the confidence and careers of over 500,000 women in over 250 cities worldwide since its inception 10 years ago.
Dress for Success Jamaica is hoping that corporate Jamaica will come onboard by volunteering not only suits, but their time and talent to help the less affluent to reach their career goals.
Jamaicans who wish to assist will be able to do so on March 27, when the group hosts a 'suit drive' to increase their suit offerings to women. This event will be held under the theme, 'One Suit, One Woman, One Job', at Angela's, 7 Merrick Avenue, Kingston 10.
