How did you land this job?

Everything in life prepares you for the next step, and in a way, I've been preparing for this job my entire career. I started working immediately after leaving Queen's at 19, and in every job I've had since, my employers have all believed in me, and have invested a lot of time in my personal growth and development, while always encouraging me to expand my horizons. When the Appleton brand manager position became available, I applied, confident that my most valuable capabilities were fitting for the job. The interview process was rigorous, but I made it all the way through and was offered a position on the team!

How long have you been in the job?

I'm the newest kid in the Appleton family! I started two weeks ago, and it's been amazing! I've been in brand marketing for a number of years, but the Appleton brand manager position is still new and exciting, everyone has been welcoming and friendly -- I think I'm going to be here a while!

What's great about your job?

My job allows me to use my experience and skills to showcase one of Jamaica's legendary brands, Appleton. I get to create programmes that excite and speak to the core of our consumers, giving them the opportunity to interact with and experience the Appleton brands. It's amazing when you can offer a quality product and see the transformation in the moment when a consumer is revelling and indulging in a 'special' moment with their favourite Appleton drink.

Tell us something we might not know about the Appleton brand(s) that you represent?

Appleton Jamaica Rum is a part of Jamaica's history and rich complex culture. We boast the fact that Appleton sits on Jamaica's oldest sugar estate and is the oldest, continuously run distillery to date, and our rums have been hailed among the best in the world. But I've got to say, Joy Spence, our master blender, is in many ways our secret weapon. She ensures that we maintain the exceptional quality the world has come to expect of the Appleton range.

Why is Appleton Special an attractive option for consumers?

Appleton Special is a great affordable option for consumers. It is a part of the brilliantly crafted Appleton Jamaica Rum range. Appleton Special is a perfect blend of fuller-flavoured traditional pot and lighter column still rums -- medium-bodied, exceptionally smooth and mild with a delicate and fruity bouquet and a hint of exotic spices.

From the perfect 'rum and cola' to being an ideal complement to many other long drinks and colada/daiquiri-style cocktails, Appleton Special Jamaica Rum is the ultimate spirit for mixing and having a great time at a great price.

I like to think of Appleton Special as "a little luxury we all can afford!"

What plans are in store for Appleton Special?

We are about to kick off our Bacchanal 2013 campaign in which we will be introducing two new Appleton cocktails during the Bacchanal Fridays series at Mas Camp: Appleton Masquerade and our Special Masquerade. Something "special" will be happening at Bacchanal 2013, and we encourage you to come out and create your special moments with us.

Where can consumers find out more about your brands?

You can visit our website at, follow us on Twitter: @appletonjamaica or like us on Facebook: which is where we run the latest Appleton promotions. Of course, we run tours at the Appleton Estate in St Elizabeth; those are available throughout the year.

The Appleton Rum Tour is a great way to learn about Jamaica's rich heritage in rum and sugar, and offers a fantastic day trip for groups.

And of course, Appleton rums are available in your favourite bars, restaurants, supermarkets and wholesales right across Jamaica. In fact, if you go to any bar or restaurant and they don't have Appleton Special for sale, call me at the head office. I'll fix that.

Make your own Special Masquerade. You'll need…

2ozs Appleton Special

2 1/2 oz Orange Juice

1/2 oz Triple Sec

1/2 oz Strawberry syrup

1/4 oz lime juice to taste

Combine all ingredients and stir.

Pour over ice and enjoy.
