KGN Kitchen Set For Sunday, December, 18 2011
Thursday, December 15, 2011
The Kingston Kitchen team of Leisha Wong, Jacqui Sinclair and Melanie Miller are all set to launch come Sunday, December 18 from 11:00am to 6:00pm at Hope Gardens, the first in the series of KGN Kitchen. Described by the foodies as an artisan open-air food court and food market series, KGN Kitchen will be held every other month to highlight the local culinary talents of Jamaica, as well as a wonderful family day out.
Artisan food markets are, according to international food magazine Bon Appetit, where you will find the "country's next great dining scene... where inspired chefs and food artisans are changing the way we eat out". This is exactly what the team hopes KGN Kitchen will be. In essence, the idea is to integrate local chefs, restaurateurs, food-makers, caterers, shoppers, foodies and families in a culinary destination, creating an environment that shows Jamaicans that they can eat affordably, exciting, local and fresh.
Food Vendors On Display
Some 20 different food vendors will be invited to set up booths at the venue and offer about four to five dishes, which can be prepared on site for the diners. Vendors will be able to sell any additional food items to the diners, which can be taken home to prepare.
KGN Kitchen also wants to encourage small-batch food producers to participate. With this in mind, there'll be a large tent that will house about 20 food makers called The Emporium. This will be more of a market in the traditional sense, where visitors can buy items to take home. It'll also house a small organic fresh produce market.
