Three Scoops in the Sunshine City

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Three Scoops Ribs and Wings, the newest hot spot in Portmore, held its official reopening ceremony last Monday at the Cedar Crest Plaza. The two-month-old restaurant, once a Devon House ice-cream parlour operated by entrepreneur Junior Rose, was revamped when former Rib Kage executive chef Kayon Page brought the initiative to diversify the operations. The establishment now offers its clientele signature Devon House ice cream, smoky barbecued ribs, freshly prepared thin-crust pizza, salads, tangy Buffalo wings, cocktails, soups and pastries.

Member of Parliament for East Central St Catherine Arnaldo Brown, the evening's guest speaker, spoke to the importance of small businesses for the economy of Jamaica. He applauded the efforts of the entrepreneurs for their brave decision to reopen the business, which has created job opportunities for citizens of the Portmore community.

Both Rose and Page remain confident, while being mindful of the challenges of food establishments in Portmore. "I knew it would be difficult for me to open this business, especially since we are located right next to another restaurant," Page explained. "We've taken a different approach, and have decided to create gourmet food at an affordable rate. We also added a delivery service for persons in Portmore to make our offerings more accessible."

The small, quaint establishment has now been furnished to allow guests the opportunity to dine in. Each table has a small scented candle to afford a more elegant dining experience. It is the hope of Page and Rose that the business will expand within the next five years. "Why should our dreams be limited to Portmore? Three Scoops Ribs and Wings has the potential to be a global concept," Rose stated.
