Beyonce & Sean Paul

Another Sean Paul entry on the Billboard charts

Okay, so Sean Paul's hit streak continues on the Billboard charts. His latest entry Baby Boy, featuring Destiny's Child member Beyonce Knowles, steps into the chart this week at #57. The song which can be found on Beyonce's solo debut album Dangerously in Love, joins Sean's other current chart entries Breathe with Blu Cantrell, Like Glue and Get Busy, on the Billboard Hot 100.

Marcia Griffiths

With three consecutive top 20 hits from his album Dutty Rock, Sean Paul creates history as being the first Reggae/Dancehall artiste to have achieved this feat.

CVM-TV/Saint International Faces of the Summer competition heats up

Wayne Marshall

The finals of the CVM-TV/Saint International Faces of the Summer competition will take place on August 17 at 8:00 pm at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The event, which is in its third year, has so far discovered 60 models after undergoing various eliminations across the island, as well as an elimination process.

According to Saint International honcho Dwight Peters: "The judges will have a hard time trying to find the winners this year. We are having high profile judges coming in from New York, Milan, Atlanta, Miami and Paris."

Sizzla

Peters added: "We have 23 males this year and 37 females. This is the biggest numbers for the two sections we have had since we started the search in 2001. Right now they are undergoing intense rehearsals in preparation for the finals'.

An added component of the finals this year is the Smirnoff Avante Garde Award, which is a cash award of $10,000 and a trophy courtesy of Smirnoff, to the designer who effectively captures the Smirnoff theme.

50 Cent

Marcia Griffiths updates Special Occasion

Remember the 1970's hit Special Occasion, by Dorothy Moore? That same song was later a hit in the 1980's for Millie Jackson. Well, Jamaica's Reggae queen Marcia Griffiths has updated the song, and trust me, it's a brilliant effort.

Produced by K 'Yahbreeze' Archibald and released on the Eight 76/All Arc Enterprises label, Special Occasion is a nice interpretation of the classic 1970's chestnut. Like a dear old friend, the song instantly grows on you. There is also an acapella version, which is just as appetising as the version.

'Marshall Law' finally arrives

Wayne Marshall's debut album Marshall Law hits stores this week. The 18-track disc which is on the VP Records label, features production work from the likes of Jeremy Harding, Trevor James, the Renaissance Crew, Stephen 'Lenky' Marsden, Craig 'Left side' Parkes and Mathew 'Esco' Thompson, Lloyd 'King Jammy's James, Christopher Birch, Troy Rami and Donovan 'Don Corleon' Bennet.

Tracks include Overcome, Hot in the Club, Zoned Out, Natural Mystic, Taking the Music, Big Flex, Marshall Town, Why You Doing It, Ghetto People Song, Captain, Check Yourself, Feeling It, Purple Skunk, My Wife, and Beautiful Morning.

Big Yard drops the Salsa rhythm

The follow-up to Big Yard's hot Sexy Lady rhythm is the grinding Salsa rhythm. The Salsa, which was produced by Christopher 'Langman' Birch, features Gal Turn Me On by Bounty Killer, Your Eyes by Rik Rok and Shaggy, Shout it Out Loud by Sizzla, We Nuh Pet Them by Elephant Man, Won't Stop by TOK, Life Lessons by Wayne Marshall, Yardie Swing by Tanto Metro and Devonte, Give it to Me by Cecile, Exchange by Chico, Girl Your Mine by Bling Dawg, Girls Invasion by Donald Anderson aka Ice Man, My Best Day by Kid Kurrup, Salsa by Voise Mail, and Having a Party by Terror.

The better tracks though include the efforts by Sizzla, TOK, Ice Man, Voise Mail and Wayne Marshall.

What to do, where to go

Goodfellaz Entertainment presents the Rebirth, Renaissance's 14 Birthday Party this Saturday August 16.

Rebirth, which also happens to be the name of the latest dancehall project from the Renaissance team, will take place at Temple Hall Estates, Stony Hill. The drink-inclusive event which is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 pm, features music from the Renaissance Disco's stable of selectors, as well as a guest spot from DJ Enuff. Enuff does a weekly stint on Black Entertainment Television (BET) 106 and Park show.

According to Rolando Nooks from Goodfellaz, the event promises to be an entertaining one, and patrons who have been to previous events hosted by his company, can expect nothing but the best from this event.

Goodfellaz has in the past staged events such as the Mid Summer Night's Dream party, as well as the annual New Year's Eve outing Mimosa.

"We (Goodfellaz) have been around for three years now, and in addition to entertainment, we have also been involved in sporting activities. We have promoted football tournaments as well," said George Nooks, a members of the management team.

The other members of Goodfellaz include Kamal Bankay, Kevin Peart, Steven Whittingham and Mark Williams.

Tickets for Rebirth cost $500 in advance, and $700 at the gate. Ticket outlets include Jamrock Sports bar and Grill, Viewers Choice in Manor Park and Liguanea and Esso Tiger Mart in Liguanea.

Quick Bytes

Brian McKnight and Wayne Wonder in combination. You read it here first folks.

In radio land, Black Thunder with Scott Wilson on Fame FM is red hot on Saturday nights. You hear the latest in hip-hop, dancehall and reggae. And speaking of Fame FM, their Retroactive Wednesdays are just off the hook. I checked them out the other day and DJ Marvin was throwing the hits from back in the day.

Famous radio personality to make a juicy move, yes it's true.

What's this we are hearing regarding the zone isn't the hype there anymore?

I don't know about you, but I am really feeling two songs right now, Right Thurr by Chingy and Frontin by Pharrell and Jay-Z. My uptown friends don't like Chingy, they think he is wack. Oh well, the rapper is hot, and his video featuring Trina is up the wall. JD needs to stop trying to be a rapper.

I am not hatin' on her, but seriously though, Never Leave Uh Oh by Lumidee is a wack song. The girl can't sing to save her life. And to make it worst, they sampled the Diwali rhythm. In any case, people are caught up in the hype and the song is in the top 5 on the Billboard charts.

Did you know that 50 Cent had a song on the charts in 1999? So, why does everyone think he is a new artiste? Oh by the way, Sharon Burke told me that she will have the hot rapper performing here in Kingston at Constant Spring Golf Club on September 5. Interesting!

Spoke to singer Lil Mo the other day. She is quite pleased about the success of her latest album. I will fill you in that interview over the next few weeks. Oh, my friend Marques Houston formerly of Immature/IMX had his birthday last week Monday. He turned 22. And how did he spend his birthday? Very quiet at home. By the way, Marques drops his solo debut album next month. And, yes, he dated Beyonce from Destiny's Child a few years ago.
