Jessica Blake is the head girl for Bridgeport High School. She said that she considered her duties challenging as a result of the different backgrounds from which the students come.
"It is challenging because the students come from different homes and so there is a mixture of behavioural patterns and some of them are not well disciplined," she explained.
The 16 year-old, who will be sitting eight CXC subjects this year, said that her favourite subject is History because it teaches her about her African and European ancestors and it also requires a lot of reading, which is one of her favourite pastimes.
The future teacher said that she hopes to change the future generation through teach social studies. "I want to teach because I will be able to change the generation, "she said. "I find that a lot of students miss out on their culture because of the Internet."
She said that she studies early in the morning when her mind is very clear so that she can retain more information. "It is quite and peaceful and I can remember more," she said. Jessica said that she is particularly proud of a trophy she received in Grade 9 for placing first in the entire ninth grade.
She said that she is also proud of the fact that she is a "Christian and a Christ follower," and she also enjoys taking part in activities at church.
The head girl said that her cousin motivates her. "I have seen what she has accomplished in her life and that is what I want to accomplish and so I aspire to that," she explained. The successes of others also form a sort of inspiration for her.
"The fact that I have seen how far others have reached and I know based on that I can do a lot of things because of the ability and potential God gave me," she said.
