Although the high school races were good, the highlights of the meet came in the individual sprint events. The most impressive performance came from none other than the world's number one sprinter Asafa Powell, who ran a new national record of 9.84 seconds in the 100m to decimate the field. His compatriots, Dwight "Bigga" Thomas and Michael Frater finished second and third, thus completing the medal haul for the Jamaicans. On the women's side, Jamaica secured a quinella, with Sherone Simpson running an excellent race to win in 11.03 and Aleen Bailey running 11.07, just enough to edge out Olympic silver medallist Lauryn Williams, who ran 11.08 seconds.
The much-anticipated 100m hurdles for women saw World Champion Perdita Felicien finishing just ahead of Lacena Golding-Clarke and Delloreen Ennis- London, both of Jamaica. Brigette Foster hit a hurdle and did not finish. In the men's 110m hurdles, hometown runner Maurice Wignall finished a disappointing third.
