WEDNESDAY'S opening of the May Pen leg of Highway 2000 is not without its concerns.
According to Scean Barnswell, mayor of May Pen, the new leg, in its current state, does not only affect the drainage along the Halse Hall Road and create erosions at the Mineral Heights exit, but also inconveniences residents wishing to do business in May Pen.
"Persons from Longville Park and Sandy Park who wish to use the highway have no exit or entry coming from these areas, and even if they use the highway and want to get off at Longville Park or Sandy Park, there is no exit," the Mayor told Auto.
Dr Omar Davies, minister of transport, works and housing, had asked that residents' concerns were addressed before the 10.5-kilometre-stretch was opened, however, that plan seemed to have been shelved.
Motorists travelling from Kingston can exit via Freetown to get to Sandy Bay. May Pen vehicular traffic can also exit via Freetown to get to Sandy Bay. Motorists will also have access to and from the highway at Mineral Heights.
Using the May Pen Toll Plaza will cost motorists $60 for Class one vehicles; $90 for Class two vehicles; and, $180 Class three vehicles.
