Tanker drivers to resume duties

Friday, September 27, 2013

MORE than 200 tanker drivers, who stayed off the job yesterday over pay, are expected to resume duties today after being issued with a back-to-work order last night.

National Workers' Union chief delegate Cleveland Guscott said the order followed a meeting with Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell.

"What was happening is that drivers withdrew their services until they received some word from the Haulage Contractors Association about salaries," Guscott explained.

Yesterday, the drivers parked their vehicles along Marcus Garvey Drive (shown in photo), in the vicinity of the Petrojam plant, to press home their demand for a salary increase.

Their action resulted in a frenzied rush on gas stations by motorists.
