ST ANN, Jamaica- A motorist escaped major injury this morning after a Noranda Bauxite train slammed into his car at Retirement in St Ann.
The train was said to be heading towards the mines in Water Valley from Discovery Bay when it hit the car which was in the process of crossing an un-gated intersection.
The driver who was the sole occupant of the car was taken for medical attention. Reports are that he did not receive major injuries.
The man had just taken his children to school and was heading back home when the crash occurred.
According to the police the vehicle was hit by the train at the front left side which caused the car to spin and run into an embankment to the right of the road.
Since the incident, residents have called for an automatic gate at the intersection to prevent vehicles from crossing when a train is approaching.
