Apologise to the world, Carl LewisTuesday, August 14, 2012
This is in response to Mark Wignall's article, "Carl Lewis owes Jamaica an apology", in the Sunday Observer of August 12.
In general I expect professional, well-written articles from journalists; no matter the subject or stature in the society of their art. As a result I do not see the necessity of offering praise for good work. However, I must say that Wignall's article conjured up a new feeling in this regard. It was simply brilliant! Direct, honest, courteous and sharp.
I hope Carl Lewis reads it, considers the merits of his illustrative words, deliberates on his potential influence to competitors in this sport, and offers an immediate apology. Not just to Jamaica, but to the world of track and field - including its enormous fan base - on behalf of Jamaica. Thank you for this piece, Mr Wignall. Keep up the diligent work.
