Dear Editor,

I wish to share with the public challenges being faced by the volunteers of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Jamaica. This programme not only benefits children, but the more than 3300 award participants and adult volunteers across the island.

The programme operates in over 70 schools and youth organisations islandwide and benefits youngsters, aged 14-25.

I would like to see the continuity of this wonderful programme to benefit even more, come the start of the new school year in September 2012.

Cynthia Ricketts
