Emancipate ourselves from mental slavery

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Dear Editor,

While we celebrate Emancipation Day with much feasting and merrymaking, it is sad to note that many Jamaicans of African decent are still shackled by mental slavery. Historical ignorance, low self-esteem, inferiority complex and personality disorder still shackle the minds of many Jamaicans of African descent.

In order to emancipate our minds from mental slavery, we must diligently study the writings of Marcus Garvey. We must also study The African Origin Of Civilisation by Chiekh Anta Diop, Lost African Civilisations, by JC deGraft-Johnson The Africans Who Wrote The Bible by Nana Banchie Darkwah. The oldest fossilised human skeleton was found in the Nile Valley in Africa. It was the skeleton of a negro and was estimated to be 1.7 million years old.

The history of human civilisation has been falsified by some European scholars to deprive Africans of the credit for creating civilisation and religion. Only when Africans and people of African descent at home and abroad are taught their true history will they be emancipated from mental slavery.
