Usain Bolt - our inspiration
Tuesday, August 07, 2012
Dear Editor,
On Sunday, August 5, 2012, Usain Bolt, the Jamaican Olympic rocket, propelled himself from the launching pad in London, England, and in the twinkling of an eye reached a maximum speed of 9.63 seconds.
This was indeed a historic event. Never before has any mortal attained this pinnacle. It was jubilation everywhere. This is what millions around the world waited with bated breath to see. And Uasin Bolt did not disappoint.
There is no doubt that Bolt's incredible feat has instilled a great deal of pride and confidence in all Jamaicans. This was the best and most fitting golden 50th Anniversary of Independence gift that Jamaica has ever received. Jamaicans at home and abroad were already in a celebratory mood and Bolt's amazing achievement has certainly given us an added boost.
This morale booster should inspire all of us (young and old) to search and find out something that we are good at and work very hard to realise our God-given potential. For it is my firm belief that every human being has a latent potential for greatness that awaits realisation. It is for us to dig deep into our subconscious and bring to life this dormant potential so that it can be realised.
Let us be inspired by Usain Bolt's amazing achievements. Let us work very hard to realise our full potential and soar to great heights with lightning speed.
