Constable offers police vehicles for sale, on fraud charges

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Charges have been slapped on a police constable who offered police vehicles for sale, collected down-payments but was unable to deliver.

Allegations are that the constable advertised vehicles belonging to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for sale on the premise that they were old and no longer in use. He subsequently collected money but failed to deliver the goods as promised.

As a result investigators at the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the JCF are asking members of the public, especially those in Westmoreland who suspect that have been fleeced, to contact them immediately.

Their numbers are 924-9067, 967-1909 and 924-9057.

The constable who is assigned to the Westmoreland division was arrested on Tuesday, July 31, after a member of the public complained to the ACB.

A file was subsequently prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who, on Saturday, August 4, directed that the constable be charged.

The constable is to face the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court.
