Quick breakthrough in murder of security guardBy GARFIELD MYERS
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — The Mandeville police have taken a man into custody in relation to the murder of a security guard at Lane Plaza on Manchester Road early this morning.
The security guard, identified as Dwayne Tomlinson, 35, was found dead at about 6:30 am. Police believe he was hit in the head by someone wielding a “blunt instrument”.
In response to news of the incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police Derrick Cochrane, head of Police Area Three (Manchester, Clarendon and St Elizabeth) said security companies should take greater care in how their personnel are deployed.
Cochrane said indications are that in this latest incident the security guard was working alone and was unarmed.
“There has to be better risk assessment,” said Cochrane. “At the very least there should be a minimum of two guards on duty. In this case, if there were two security guards working together, one would have been able to come to the assistance of the other.”
