Vogel accused killer remandedBY TANESHA MUNDLE Staff reporter firstname.lastname@example.org
The housekeeper of slain University Professor Peter Vogel, who was recently captured after years of being on the run following the professor’s death in 2007, was again remanded into custody when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The 26-year-old accused, Yanika Scott, was remanded into custody following a delay by the director of public prosecutions who is to enter a voluntary bill to move the case from the Resident Magistrate’s Court to the Home Circuit Court where she will stand trial with her boyfriend, Kelvin Downer, who is also charged in the matter.
Scott reportedly went into hiding following Vogel’s murder and was captured three weeks ago in Montego Bay, St James, while Downer was charged in 2008.
Vogel, who was attached to the Department of Life Sciences at the University of the West Indies in Mona, St Andrew, was found dead at his College Common residence on July 19.
An autopsy revealed that the 60-year-old Swiss national was strangled.
Scott is scheduled to return to court on June 27.
