Senior off on trial with Norway's Sogndal IF

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Jamaica and Harbour View FC midfielder Joel Senior is off for a two-week trial stint with Norwegian Premier League outfit Sogndal IF.

Senior, who departed the island on Tuesday, has been under the microscope of former Jamaica international and Harbour View regular Altimont 'Freddie' Butler, who scouts for clubs in Norway.

If successful, Senior will join other Reggae Boyz Demar Phillips, Rodolph Austin, Jason Morrison and Tremaine Stewart who ply their trade in the Scadinavian country.

A graduate of Howard and James Madison universities, Senior distinguished himself with Player of the Year honours in 2005, 2006 and 2007. His relentless mobility and supreme work rate gained him the respect of his teammates and opponents.

In the Reggae Boyz Under-20 final stage of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2007, he gave a creditable account of himself against Cuba, Guyana, Costa Rica and Panama.

So far, Senior has earned five national senior caps his year.

For Harbour View last season in the Red Stripe Premier League, the little Indian livewire wrapped up 36 first team starts, scoring one goal and offering eight assists, loogging 2,948 minutes of playing time in the process.

He forged a reputable midfield quartet with other national players Richard Edwards, Jermaine Hue and Romario Campbell and sometimes John-Ross Edwards.
