Top Runna game and song launchedTuesday, July 31, 2012
WITH the Olympics and the celebration of the nation's 50th anniversary of Independece this year, Jamaica has quite a lot to cheer about.
But PlayJamaica.com has one more thing for us to be excited about — Top Runna.
The flash-powered, social network-driven game was publicly launched last week with a two-fold purpose.
"Top Runna was developed as part of our plan to relaunch the PlayJamaica.com Website, as well as to celebrate our exploits at this year's Olympics," said Gregory Moore, technical director of PlayJamaica.com. "We thought that this product would have the best appeal and would showcase that our prowess is not only on the track, but in technology," he added.
The official launch of the game was held last Friday at the Big Yard Studios in Kingston in conjunction with the launch of the game's official song Top Runna performed by Serani.
Written, and produced by Serani, the rack was mixed by Winston 'Blackout' Thomas out of Miami, Florida, popularly known for his work with Nicki Minaj, Mims, and Fabolous, and with his international edge, the track has taken on a life of its own.
"It was after we did the song for the game that we realised this could be an anthem for the olympics," said Chris Lawe, senior consultant and director of PlayJamaica.com, who approached his former schoolmate, Serani, to do the song.
"This song is a tribute to the best athletes in the world, who just happen to Jamaicans," Serani added at the press junket as the team showcased the game to the media.
The game, as well as being a tribute, is seen as a showcase of Jamaica's talents, beyond the track.
"Top Runna is a uniquely 'Jamaican-ised' track racing game, that will capitalise on Jamaica's exploits at the Olympics. The world will watch us in London... and the world can participate in this game," said Ryan Moore, CEO of the website.
Featuring athletes such as "Lightening B", "Afaasta P" and "Sally-Ann F", the game offers a simple game play that all ages can enjoy. With easy tapping of the left and right arrow keys, players can tap their way to victor. Players' achievements and progress are highlighted through Facebook, making the game social as well.
Creating a niche for themselves in the world of online gaming, PlayJamaica.com will offer to gamers worldwide a chance of not only self-gratification but also the chance to win exclusively Jamaican prizes including Kindles, iPod Touch, Beats by Dre headphones, T-shirts and more.
The brothers, Gregory and Ryan, and Lawe run the website with the help of Marlon Lodge, who acts as chief technology officer.
