100 awarded Rose Hall/SOS football certificatesBY HORACE HINES Observer West reporter
ROSE HALL, St James - Nearly 100 children from SOS Children's Villages who took part in the 10th annual staging of the Rose Hall Football Camp were presented with certificate of participation during a ceremony held in Rose Hall recently.
The football camp is the brainchild of Marc Rollins, son of Michele Rollins, the principal of Rose Hall Development Company.
The one-week clinic was held from July 30 to August 3 under the watchful eyes of camp directors, Rollins and former Reggae Boyz Aaron Lawrence at the Hilton Rose Hall playing field in St James.
Two other former national representatives, Fabian Davis and Linval Wilson; Granville Clarke, Dr Percival Bahado-Singh, a former SOS Village resident, Gregory Stewart, Eleanor Grove and Ashlee Rollins have also been involved in coaching activities over the years.
"I look forward to this every year. This really puts perspective into my life. It is important to give back and be a part of someone else's life. This is our 10th year and it has gotten better every year," Marc told the Observer West.
Meanwhile, Lawrence who has been with the programme since its inception in 2002 expressed delight with his involvement with the initiative.
"I make sure when it comes to the first week of August I have nothing else booked. I plan to be here working for the kids as long as I have life. Even if I am old and weak I still have to give back to my fellow Jamaicans," he explained.
"It is something we look forward to every year, and we really appreciate Marc Rollins, his mother Michele Rollins and the Rollins family for doing this programme."
