Inaugural staging of Caribbean Shrimp Festival for Whitter Village

MONTEGO BAY, St James - The inaugural staging of the Caribbean Shrimp Festival will be held at the Whitter Village in Ironshore, St James, on Saturday.

Organisers have promised that the event will offer mouth -watering shrimp cuisine throughout the day prepared by leading cooks.

"The event will present exquisite shrimp meals from peppered shrimp, curried shrimp, shrimp kebab, tempura shrimp and more. Our top chefs will be adding ingredients representing our neighbouring Caribbean islands to enhance the shrimp flavour," according to a release from the event director, Jackie Norman.

Norman explained that upcoming chefs in training, as well as seasoned hotel chefs will parade their culinary talent with the use of shrimps at the festival.

The show which is scheduled to begin at 10:OO am and goes on to midnight, will be culminated with an entertainment package featuring performances by Silver Bird Steel Orchestra, Lij Tafari, Jah Torius, Honorebel, St Paul, the Riu Dancers, who will provide a tribute to Michael Jackson; and others.

Norman also noted that the event will boast a cook -off kiddies' village, bikini pageant, among other activities to compliment the day's attraction.

" Children can be assured they will have their own personal space at the Caribbean Shrimp Festival. Attractions to include: Bounce-about, face painting, stilt walkers and cool down under sprinklers, storytelling and their own little stage for a just kid's concert," she stated.
