'Bruce must resign!' - Seaga

Criticises handling of 'Dudus', West Kingston

JamaicaObserver.com

Friday, May 28, 2010

EDWARD Seaga, former leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Member of Parliament for West Kingston is calling for the resignation of his successor, Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

The man who built the community of Tivoli Gardens, Seaga is accusing Golding of mismanaging the United States extradition request for local area don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, who is wanted on gun and drug trafficking charges.

"Frankly that is my view because he is showing day by day that he cannot cope," Seaga said in an interview aired on TVJ last night.

He said that Golding should not have intervened in the extradition process and should seek another constituency. During a tour of the community yesterday residents strongly expressed their opposition to their MP whom they accuse of abandoning them to the assault by security forces that began Sunday.

The assault began after gunmen aligned to Coke attacked police. 73 people have been confirmed killed so far amid allegations that the death toll could be much higher. Just four guns have been seized together with more than 7,000 rounds of ammunition.

Seaga has said that an atrocity took place. He is also calling for Coke to surrender himself to authorities.

We in the diaspora urges the United Nations to investigate crimes against humanity, genocide and other atrocities unleashed on the Jamaican people from 1967 to the present by evil politicians who created garrisons, gunmen and dons. A Hague style court should be setup to try them. We are willing to fund this court. We call upon the UN to immediately arrest these politicians and hold them pending trial. We already have the rope in case they are found guilty as charged.

While I am sorry for the folks in Tivoli, the blame falls on Seaga, he was the one who never told them they were wrong for nothing they ever do He made them feel invincible .Jamaica is taken over by criminals, so many people want to come home and help build our country but people are scared because of criminals, they shoot kids, the elderly even the entertainers they are now killing..FATHER GOD PLEASE STEP UP, WE CRY FOR YOU!!! JAMAICA NEEDS YOU!!!hE

There we go again, big mouth Seaga at it again. I wish he would just keep his mouth shut. He created this mess in TG and he now has the gall to shooting off his mouth. Eddie the best thing you can do right now is to find out from your former constituents the where about of Dudus and hand the info over to the security forces then go to bed.

How dare Mr.Seaga call on Bruce to resign. He was the one who created this mess call Tivoli, so how dare he, he needs to sit down and keep quiet. At least Bruce is doing something about it, DO NOT RESIGN BRUCE!!! wipe out all criminals who plunder on the society and bring fear and terror..its about time something be done to bring back our beautiful country. The police and soldiers were doing their jobs. The government sent buses for them to leave but no they would rather stay and die for DUDUS..

I agree that innocent people are been killed in Tivoli, because the real criminals are long gone, and it seems that the stupid force is just shooting the young males that they see and believe are thugs, and are asking for guns. These thugs aren't stupid, they weren't going to leave the guns lying careless about in a house, they have special places were they are well hidden. Only 4 guns were recovered and i heard they weren't found in Tivoli, guns are there but each time none were found.

Seaga further states in his interview with Impact's Emily Crook last night that another constituency would have been more suited for someone (Bruce) who seems to be more focused on ntl and intl issues than issues affecting the constituency.

During the interview on Impact Seaga did say that Bruce could make a comeback but it would take a long time as it involves rebuilding the trust and respect of TG citizens. He did say that he did not think Bruce was ready to handle a constituency like WK as that constituency required a certain amt of attention, love, care that he felt Bruce did not have to give.

Bruce is a toto head, he should resign, but Eddie should shut up, he created this mess, Bruce just came along and allowed it to reach higher heights. Dudus picked up where Jim Brown left off, only that he's smarter, or so he thinks. So alot of what's going on now, was going on in Jim Brown's time when Eddie was at the helm, why do you think he never won the election again/Pnp had it 18 ys, it wasn't because they were doing an excellent job, if Eddie never left Portia would have won.

5/28/2010
If anyone saw Seaga's interview on the news and Impact last night, they will know that this article has been published to sensatalize the public's outcry for Bruce's resignation and not to highlight what Seaga actually said. He gave Bruce two options, one of which was that if he (Bruce) cannot handle being a leader for the West Kingston constituency that he should then resign.

The stance taken by many of the posters on this board has helped me to solidify my profound belief that Jamaicans are our most implacable enemies. Most of us are well aware that the Island has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and as a result, rapid erosion of morals and ethics are deemed inevitable. Now, many of us have agreed that our only hope of survival is to sack an arrogant member of our decision making team, just that we don't want to hear our sentiments echoed by a noble man. Peace!

Seaga, Who is The Chief Deliverer, is right on a few points, when he said Bruce should not intervened, I believe he is saying that the matter involving Mr Coke and the USA regarding he Mr Coke to be extradited
wasn't a political one, however Bruce the son of Golding made it to be a political matter than Judicial. Seaga knows what he would have done in this matter, just like he did in the past when Jim Brown of the Shower Posse died suddenly in The Tower Street Adult Correctional Center.

Eddie is competent to speak on Bruce's leadership ability. Bruce was minister of construction in the 80's when the CG was critical of the handling of many projects. Bruce lacks the judgement required to be PM and proves this by taking over as MP in Tivoli. He did not learn from the relations of Tivoli and the police. In a tivoli operation looking for wanted men, he told them to leave and missed a golden opportunity to behave as a PM in waiting by telling them to surrender. Bruce must resign!

@Just Saying... I'm just curious as to how the US created the monster that Jamaican people have to deal with.
Isn't it time to face up to the painful reality that we got ourselves into this mess by years and years of indiscipline and corrupt politics.

What does Mr. Seaga wants Mr. Golding to do?
It’s like dam if he does….and dam if he don’t!!!!
When they tried to lobby the US it was frown upon….because he is the MP for the area….Now he wants Bruce to go there and micro manage the Army and Police?
Dudus is the one who is causing all this suffering on the people; the country’s image and economy.
Can someone tell me the solution to all of this…. Gunmen attacking the police and innocent people. Don't resign Bruce. Seaga butt out!

5/28/2010
@una he said he should not have intervened. Seaga right if Bruce just accepted the request and went about arresting dudus thus all might not have happened. However by blatantly supporting dudus by doing erething to block the request he created a monster he can't control. He should resign after this has concluded. Resigning now in the middle of the cisis would not be a good move.

Politician are ellected officials and they are not above the law, the police should be able to do their job effectively without fear of arresting a politician for breaking the law.
Politicians in jamaica speaking of different legislation everyday to fight criminals, we need new legislation to empowered the police to even arrest corrupted politician in parliment, enough is enough.

Though I would rather not see JA embarrassed by the exposure of the corruption. I realize that exposure is needed for the country to finally rise. As for those loyal to Mr. Coke, where was your savior when u needed him most. If he was the great man that u believe him to be. He would have stood by ur side in the fight. He chose to retreat. He was only good to u because he knew the day would come when he would need an army. He used the people.

The pot calling out the kettle? This was a sleeping dog in waiting.Tivoli was built on the premise of being an untouchable garrisson, and that a different law applies to that area,it was a real pity that so much had to die for this to be realized.May god have pity on their souls. In the coming months a lot more will be revealed and heads will roll one by one.

Seaga please..you should be on trail for this debacle we call Tivoli and your role in support of garrision. Just you saying the security force should not gone into Tivoli just show who you are. How on earth you can support the idea that the security force or anyone for that matter cannot enter any community in jamaica. You never said nothing during the few days but now you a talk. You only a talk because dem neva find the gun dem, dem bwoy de only escape through gully or a hide out in some hole.

It's time for a change and ALL law abiden citizens must RISE and demand Bruce to resign. Enough is Enough--too many innocent people have lost their lives and it should not be in vain. Mr. Prime Minister, do your people a favor and step down.
We do not need any more criminals and corrupted individuals leading our country. So, please do us all a favor and step aside because you are responsible for the recent events that unfold leaving so many death.

When Seaga realized that Bruce was not qualified or competent he had a responsibility to tell the country and not allow him to become PM. Many of us looked at his resume at that time and knew that he was not qualified for this job.
Seaga is very irresponsible, he tried grooming Bruce for years, when he realized that Bruce was not competent, instead of not handing over leadership and keeping quiet, he should have told the country why he did not want him to be leader. Many of us who watched his career knew Bruce was no more than an empty suit incapable of running the country. A case in point, he choose someone who couldn’t run a gas station successfully to be Minister of Finance. If you can’t manage a couple thousand dollars chances

@ Randy, MOST people are NOT advocating to replace the JLP with the PNP. Most people are advocating that the PM tender his resignation as PM of JA and for the JLP to put forward to the GG another MP to be appointed as PM who has the confidence of the majority in the House of Parliament. This is a PRINCIPLED stance as the PM has lost credibility both in JA and abroad. There were numerous times in our past when we should have taken principled stances, however a stance has to start somewhere.

Seaga could have tried to prevent this, he still have much control of the area and yet said nothing as if giving Bruce enough rope to hang himself.

The police have the right to execute a warrant in any community at any given time to anyone. At the start people march illegally for defending a known criminal they block roads, not only to their community but to others, police station burnt and get shot up, 1 soldier and 2 police officers got killed. People openly vowed to die for dudus. How else could the situation be dealth with. Motty, Gooms or the NDM cant help you tivoli. NDM is cashing in on the opportunity for votes.MEMBA YOUR VOW TO

If I might add, blindeager and blindgolding, both of you is a disgrace for the male gender, unu create these monsters, provide shelter and allow then to control these areas, they have no regards for the law, they are ignorant to the importance other human, and this is the result of your doing, the jlp has always been a route to distruction and jamaicans always seem to forget,he who brakes the law suffers the consequence, jamaicans help the security forces to cleanup the island that everyone including americans love so much

Edward Seaga said Bruce Golding should NOT have intervened!
Mr.Seaga said that the extradition process should have been handled by the courts. Your newspaper needs to get a better editor.
We, Jamaica, need better leadership, I don't know where that is going to come from though. We seem to be sorrounded by idiots, I mean atrocities in Tivoli, gun battles that recover 6 guns, most of which were found outside Tivoli, children doing exams admidst gun fire. Does this happen in the West Bank. Fools!

Finally the best Prime Minister that Jamaica have ever had surfaced. Had this madness been under the leadership of Edward Seaga the outcome would have been different.Seaga was a great leader.
The people of Tivili are humans. Just because they are poor they should not be desregarded.
I guess miserly loves company. Many in various countries are miserable and have totally errupted the Island of Jamaica for gain. I sure hope they will produce the funds to rebuild the Island in the end.

Thanks to the jdf good work.the jamaican politician, the police and the custom officers are to be blamed.the custom allowed a lot of guns in the country. The police, they are so corrupt its a shame. Thanks again to the jamaica defence force. Tory miami.

All my years growing up & listening to Mr Seaga, I never liked the man. However upon further research, I found he had an idea to take the ppl from "Back-A-Wall" & make it into a model community. That brain child project obviously failed & miserably I might add, but his intentions were good.
I can't agree with him more now, Bruce needs to GO. He did advise JA Bruce was not ready for leadership. Remember the Gang of 5 saga? We didn't listen. Now " fowl no hear shi, hear pam." Bruce no READY

What will be the response of the NDMites in the Cabinet to Seaga's brutal attack?
Will the tribal divide between rock stone labourites and tun-back labourities reopen internal party wounds?
Will Seaga be forced to halt the implosion of the JLP?
Will original labourites exact revenge on the NDM highjackers?
Very interesting political times are ahead.

While I agree that Bruce should resign and that coming from Eddie, its a whopper, it begs the question - what does Eddie mean by.... "Bruce should have intervened in the extradition process"? Didn't Bruce hang himself by INTERVENING? He should have let the judicial process have its way the same way it would work for a guilty or innocent man/woman from St. Thomas (St Thomasterian), Portlander or Kingstonian who is wanted by the US, Canada, Cuba or Columbia. Would Bruce have intervened for you?

While I have always respected Mr. Seaga as an accomplished national and intellectual, this time I feel he is entirely off the mark. What Mr. Golding did was reinforce the supremacy of law and civility over lawlessness and the attempt by unscrupulous elements to undermine the state. While it is entirely unfortunate that lives had to be lost in the process; Mr. Golding's resignation will not solve the crisis. Tivoli Gardens is not untouchable. Good work Mr. PM!

Seaga has no authority to tell anyone to do anything as much as I have always admired his intellect he needs to stay out of this as he created the monster that we in society are left to deal with....Bruce needs to stay on and address the mandate that he was given by the populous if not then we will vote him out..Right now No to Portia and her clowns after we nuh have Amnesia

I agree with Seaga , that Bruce should go. This whole affair has been royally messed up by him, and I have no confidence in his leadership (that is an understatement).

Well as a young Jamaican i am deeply sadden by the events unfolding and I think Mr. Seaga is an hyprocrite of the highest order. This man never got up and saw the acts of the crimmals walking out of Tivoli with AK47 and shooting after officers of the state. All he ever harps on is how the police are doing this and that, One hand dont clap this man should find a dark hole and hide himself, he is one of the architects of this malaise we are now in. Do the right thing shut up u r an hyprocrite.
