THE death of 41-year-old Franklyn Town resident Michael Rose at the hands of evil arsonists has been met with disgust by Jamaica Observer online readers. Rose's home was torched as he slept early Tuesday morning. Responding to a story published yesterday, some readers called for the death penalty to be reintroduced, while others call for residents to say what they know. Here are some edited comments.

I weep for the people of my country and can only hope and pray that soon, whatever evil influence is causing such bloodshed and barbaric acts to be committed against innocent and defenseless people, will stop and the root of such evil be found and rooted out.

Can't get any worse than this!

Sounds like this man was a hard worker and that he took care of his family. We have some useless elements in our society who live to prey on others. There doesn't necessarily have to be a reason why people dislike or want to hurt you, you don't have to do a thing, stupidity and band mind will always prove sufficient fuel for some in Jamaica.

Honesty & Truth

He was targeted simply because he provided a semblance of positiveness, he was doing too well. This is how they operate in the ghetto.

We need the government to return to ways of old, set aside whatever these human rights activists may say and return to the gallows or use the lethal injection.

As Mr Adams has said: FIND THE CROCODILES THAT ARE LAYING THE EGGS AND EXTERMINATE THEM. It's the ONLY way. LETHAL INJECTION, FIRING SQUAD, whatever. They MUST be removed from society.

@liqcocktails

This is another senseless killing. This elderly lady is yet again burying another child. Jamaica, when will we stop and take a good look at ourselves? When will we stop these senseless killings?

May God give the grieving family strength to carry on.

You do not have to be a part of any gang for these criminals to attack you. They will kill you if you refused their requests or by just looking at you. They will attack when you are unaware and defenceless. These are the garbage we have living amongst us, and the only way to get rid of them is to get the rope swinging and a hole to dispose them. Giving them prison time at taxpayer's expense, they will only return to kill again.

Honesty & Truth

@Paddy5:

These depraved psychopaths whose only purpose of existence is to wreak mayhem and havoc in our country. Sadly, the politicians, high-profile businessmen and businesswomen are their biggest sponsors.

Jamaica is a failing state and the PNP is hastening the process to total failure.

When murder is committed in the inner city no one sees or hears anything. The murderers get away and the cycle continues. When the police shoot someone, however, there are countless witnesses. If we want to rid ourselves of this perpetual scourge of violence it has to be a concerted effort by all and not a partisan approach. If the criminals are not caught crime will not stop regardless of whether the consequence is 'life' or death.
