Voice Mail member O'Neil Edwards shot

BY COREY ROBINSON Observer Reporter robinsonc@jamaicaobserver.com

Monday, May 10, 2010

THE gloom on the faces of the residents of Belloc Avenue in Duhaney Park told a grim story.

The residents are neighbours of O'Neil Edwards — part of the dancehall trio Voice Mail — who is now in hospital battling for life.

Edwards was ambushed and shot repeatedly as he attempted to open his gate after returning home about 1:00 this morning.

Neighbours said they hoped Edwards would survive the ordeal.

"I just really hope that he makes it, trust me," said one of a group of persons who had gathered outside Edwards home this morning.

Residents say two gunmen were seen running away from the scene. Edwards was found lying on his back in a pool of blood in his backyard. He was shot at least five times.

I pray for O'neil as he is one of the good DJ. You people just looking someone to blame, its always the politician fault. WHAT ARE YOU DOING AS A CITIZEN TO HELP STOP CRIME. You all sit and hope politicians create some miracle when its is your brothers, cousin and friends doing the crime. Some of you know the criminals in your communities but do nothing or say nothing. Every time a gun man is caught, you block roads and BUN DUN the place. Jamaican's are too spoil! we want free school, free hospital, free everything. Where is the money going to come from? Taxes can't do it all. Too much money is spent and spoiling the Jamaicans who can afford it so there is non it invest in stopping crime. Give the poor people who can't afford it a chance.

2 gunmen seen running from the incident......That just goes to show maybe it could be men from near by communities...The police should check out all possibilities...

tired of hearing that the police cannot be trusted everywhere in the world police is corrupt so let it go . We cannot get rid of all of them so what ? Find the good police give information anonymously stop the foolishness , We are dealing with some sad , sick insecure little boys who only think they are men when they have a gun in their hands. The politicians are the cause of the problems going back forty years , bad parenting is another cause we have to fix it ourselves. , We need a forum where every day Jamaicans can make suggestions and something needs to happen . Mr Golding why are you always so quiet , you are such a disappointment . We need to stop glorifying badness and find something for these young boys to do , If you can;t find work put together a training camp or something where they can go and stop idling

Evertime there is a crime it's Bruce fault. If the citizens of Jamaica hear nothing, see nothing, and knows nothing, well nothing will be done. It is about time the hear nothing and see nothing culture change and the kiling will stop. The residents need to stand up against the criminals, what will the gunmen do kill everyone in the community? Remember unity is strength. Stop play the blame game and it is time for us to do our part. Are there anyone being murdered where Bruce or Portia lived?

The reason why people wont start opening up to Police (informing), is because the Police are possibly the criminals. So what confidence the Jamaican Public have in the security forces? The country needs a purge. In the US, people come forward with information because they have the assurance of being safe and the information being confidential.

While the government has a responsibility to protect us, we as citizens must also protect ourselves and neghbiours. Its time we stop this "see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing" and Speak Up and Speak Out and stop depending and blaming poltitics, bet if it was a wanted man shot by police the whole community would see, and human rights groups would be up in arms.
@ Truth Facts; I agree with you, this does not seem random

I am sure no one is going to help the police in giving info. The police can never solve the crime problem if citizens don't help.
So, instead of suggesting people refrain from their constitutional rights....encourage them to play their civic role.

Untill Today Nelson and Golding have not called a amnesty for guns to be surrendered. It's a long time now they are governing. The People must now get up in demonstration for illegal weapons to be given up. Untill Government control Guns before the Shootings and killings will stop. The Citizens must show their concern, and do not wait untill one is shot everyone just argue. There is no true Government out there in Jamaica.
I'am also begging all Jamaicans not to go back to the polling Stations in support of any party, untill they have start to show their interest in the people, first security, and this must not be a promise, you must see this. Golding must resign, and the PNP must show their responsibility, before any more election. The Country cannot continue to be run under this criminal administration, and like a Jungle. Wake up..Wake up..and demonstrate, before it's too late. It's heading to a crisis where it will be only be Gun men and the security remain out there.

I hope him pull thru. Yard dread!
We have an inactive PM that gave up the country to murders, robbers, and rapists; one that doesn't care much about the people. We need some drastic changes; release the army. We need all impoverish communities buck down and then build back up with the proper infrastructure. Enough is enough!!!!!
