10 arrested after assault rifle, shotguns seized in St James

TEN people are now in police custody after lawmen yesterday seized five illegal firearms on Ducketts Road in Cambridge, St James.

The Police have not yet released the names of those arrested.

In a release yesterday, the constabulary's Corporate Communications Unit said the five weapons, including a high-powered rifle, were seized by members of the Lottery Scam Task Force and the Mobile Reserve who conducted raids in the community about 3:00 am.

The items seized, according to the police, are: an M16 assault rifle; two 12-gauge shotguns; two 9mm pistols; 215 rounds of ammunition; 76 lead sheets; six cellular phones; three ski masks; a laptop; and a notebook containing identity information of people residing overseas.

The police say they are carrying out further investigations.
