102 persons arrested for child pornography in Poland
AFP
Friday, September 10, 2010
WARSAW, Poland (AFP) — Polish police said yesterday they made 102 arrests around the country on suspicion of possessing and spreading child pornography on the Internet.
"Police officers searched 114 apartments, company headquarters and Internet cafes on Tuesday and Wednesday," national police spokesman Mariusz Sokolowski told AFP.
"They seized 133 computers, laptops and hard disks as well as 3,500 CDs and DVDs," he added.
Earlier crackdowns in April and July had led to the arrests of a total of 111 people.
In late January, Polish police detained 120 people suspected of collecting and spreading child pornography on the Internet in a similar operation, after 473 people were held in eight crackdowns last year.
Polish law punishes the spreading of child porn with sentences of up to eight years in prison.
