Man kills woman, turns gun on himself
RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann - A man, in an apparent rage of jealousy, Wednesday night shot dead a woman and then turned the gun on himself in Cardiff Hall, an upscale community in this parish.
The dead were identified by the police as Alroy Campbell, a 55-year-old businessman of Mount Zion in St Ann, and Rio Nuevo, St Mary, and Nicola McKenzie, a businesswoman of Mount Edgecombe, Runaway Bay, St Ann.
The incident occurred around 10 o'clock when, according to the police, Campbell used his red Nissan station wagon motor car to block the path of a green Toyota Mark II motor car that was parked near the intersection of Pimento Terrace and Rickett's Drive in the Cardiff Hall area of Runaway Bay, in which McKenzie and a man were sitting.
The police said Campbell, armed with his licensed 9mm Browning pistol, opened fire at the Mark II, hitting McKenzie. The driver of the car escaped unhurt.
Campbell, said the police, then turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger.
Both were later taken to the St Ann's Bay Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Sources told the Observer that both Campbell and McKenzie were involved in a relationship and that Campbell had returned from abroad unexpectedly and was upset that McKenzie was apparently seeing another man.
