HEAD of the St Catherine North Police Division Senior Superintendent Anthony Castelle and his predecessor Superintendent Assan Thompson were among 18 members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who were hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for alleged breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

The police officers were arrested and charged after they failed to file their statutory returns or declare their assets to the authorities.

SSP Castelle, who is accused of failing to file his returns between 2003 and 2010, pleaded not guilty and is to return on March 12 for trial while SSP Thompson — who is accused of failing to provide information in relation to his ownership of a house in Karachi Pines in Kingston — also pleaded not guilty and is to return to court on the same day.

Meanwhile, a number of the defendants pleaded guilty and were each fined $5,000 or 30 days in prison. Others who pleaded not guilty were asked to return to court on March 12.

Some of the charges were also admonished and discharged by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey.
