2 charged for counterfeit Jamaica 50 notes

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica —  Police yesterday arrested and charged two men for possession of counterfeit notes.

Charged are Richard Brown, 24, and Brenton Wilkinson, 18, both of Middle Quarters, St Elizabeth.

The men were arrested during an operation by the New Market Police along the New Market main road in the parish.

Police reports are that about 2:00 am, spot checks were being conducted in the New Market area when both men were stopped and searched. They were found in possession of 18  $1,000 notes bearing serial number WT543359, and 24 $500 notes bearing serial number WR403543, all resembling the new commemorative Jamaica 50 notes. 

Brown and Wilkinson were subsequently arrested and charged for uttering and possessing counterfeit notes. They are scheduled to appear in the Black River Resident Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
