26 civilians dead, JCF reports
Jamaica Observer
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
THE Jamaica Constabulary Force is reporting that 26 civilians have been killed and 25 injured in the West Kingston operation. The report — the first official confirmation from the police — was issued this morning.
One member of the security forces was also killed and seven injured, the police said.
The police said those killed were mostly males and their bodies were recovered from areas close to barricades, building entrances and gullies running through Tivoli Gardens. In addition to injuries and fatalities, 211 people including six women were detained.
The security forces are also reporting seizures of firearms, ammunition, binoculars, army fatigues and ballistic vests.
The operations which include building searches will continue and the public will be informed of the outcome, the police said.

People They are all males!!!

The Police and the Army must go in clean house and if a few who wanted to die anyway die so be it...out of pain must come good.
5/25/2010
when a hurricane(state of emergency) warring is in effect and the people(residents of tivoli) refuse to the leave.......the aftermath horrific(deaths of human beings both innocent and guilty). and yet people gloat when so much blood has been shed.
5/25/2010
I think a better wording would be "26 criminals were killed." If they were on the front line they must have been criminals. They have been begging for war so now that they are getting their wishes I hope they are happy. Hope the security force will keep up the pressure and turn over every inch of each house and apartment, rip open every mattress to find the hidden guns. Do not give them a chance to regroup later and put the country through this hell again. Make a clean sweep - we are patient and you have the backing of all law abiding Jamaicans, whether in Jamaica or abroad. It is full time we take the country back from the criminals.
5/25/2010
The people who have been killed have not died in vain as their blood should serve as a reminder to all law abiding Jamaicans that this mess must be cleaned up once and for all. The conclusion of this mess must include disarming the thugs and criminals or putting them in a position where they are no longer a threat to society.
5/25/2010
' Civilians ', seems to be a term used by official forces, in conflicts of this type, to describe others ( possibly adversaries , non-uniformed ) that are involved.
5/25/2010
the kids, the kids
5/25/2010
these people i think don't understand what is happening in west Kingston and other areas in Kingston. The solders and police were give the go ahead to go for T.G ' president' and the were undertaking by 'Decent LAW ABIDING CITIZENS' who decided that, because 'Jesus died' for them they were going to die for a man who can't save them or himself. so said so done, they have maid up their minds to make sacrifice which mounted up to no good. the end product for all of this is, but let me coat first what Bible says, "for wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life" (Romans 6:23), the 26 and more dead boobies that are been fund is a result of the choice people wish to make. My prayers goes up for those who have last their innocent loved ones in such a tragic way. my heart leaps for the choice these people maid, but God says in is word " chose ye this day who you will serve".
5/25/2010
I say finish the job in Tivoli then Mountain View next!!!
5/25/2010
Let this be the begining of a new day in the life of Jamaica where the Constitution and Law of the Land will reign supreme. Where no one is above the the law and no one is suppressed by it. The idea that one person can hold the nation at ransom or control a whole community and rob people of their freedom is unthinkable in a democratic country. Not even the police can enter without been brutally attacked.
Every citizen should be free to go anywhere they like free from fear. So this is the time for both political parties to dismantle all garrison communities in the island and return Jamaica to a state where it once again can be call a land of peace and love.
5/25/2010
Now i knew why Jamaica so violent , if you who are commenting on this website are the LAW abiding people and you are so BLOOD THIRSTY , what type of criminals people like you will produce
5/25/2010
Wow everyone wants to kill Dudus and his people? You will have 3 more dons replace him. You cant stop rain showers by just buying an umberella you may want to talk to God, or should I say whichever political party brought the gangsters in to get the votes. Dont scapegoat the worker go get the boss.
5/25/2010
the use of the term civilian refers to any person who is not a member of the security force (JDF/JCF)....so for the record THUGS/GUNMEN ARE CIVILIANS....hope this clears up any ambiguities
5/25/2010
No so called peace treaty can come into existence while these thugs are in possession of high powered weapons. So I wonder about the point of sending these two individuals into Tivoli. Are they supposed to tell the security forces to retreat because 'innocent' people are being killed?
I hope that the security force carries out an all out assault on this enclave. Sentiments about innocent women and children must not be used as a factor for ant retreat. These "innocent" expressed their willingness to die so let us grant them their wish and go for the jugular. If this crime empire can be dismantled we can rest assured that the other ones will be brought down.
5/25/2010
If you are not in the military or Police force you are a civilian. All the gunmen firing on police are civilians. Clean up all garrisons JCF/JDF.
5/25/2010
i dont understand how a people can be so daft. how can people be calling seaga's name now? who was in power for the last how many years?this is like blaming slavery for where the country is now. jesus.
5/25/2010
These gunmen took on the State, and now there are people talking about the response of the security forces. These gunmen declared war on the State. How should the State have responded? I am thinking only of those innocent children who did not agree to be a part of this. I support the security forces.
5/25/2010
I only have one question. Why is it not more? There were hundreds of these vagabond scoundrels roaming the street. I would have been happy to hear it was 260 men.
5/25/2010
Tori Muller,Everald G and John Public, what makes all of you so much better than people in west kingston ? mr john Public , where should the residents of the various embattled communities evacuate to ? will you put up just 2 people untill this is over ? since all of you are so condescending in your manner of speach. thank god for the internet and the blogs other wise many of us wouldnt have a thing to say. Call all of these passionate commentors to a public display of thier various sentiments and see how many of us will show. i like that there is no shortage of opinions and perspectives , but word is not wind words are powerful and creative an as such we should chose and use our words carefully, and realize that if some way shape or form we are not a part of the solution then we are contributors to the problem. it would be very interesting to know whos bullets took whose life and what were the circumstances ?
5/25/2010
Hey Lex, do you forget that Jesus died for them and they were willing to die for Dudus. I blame the prime minister for all of this. The 1st time Dudus should know that an extradition warrant was out for him should be when the police turn up to execute it, but no, the PM in all his glory, tried the case in the media and gave the criminal time to fortify their positions in order to take on the state.
5/25/2010
Civilian? What civilian? We are weak...as soon as things get tuff or people die, people want us to retreat. I say this time LETS FINISH THE JOB FOR GOOD.
5/25/2010
Let the purge begin. We have sat silently for so long and allowed thugs to run our streets and their emissaries to make a mockery of governance.
I am proud of our many young men and women who are putting their lives on the line for our dear country.
5/25/2010
Lets all be realistic. There were hundreds of gunmen armed and firing. They took the war to the police stations. They attacked the security forces all around. They barricaded the place so no one could enter. The residents protested last week saying they would die for Dudus - he is next to God. The residents wouldnt leave. What did you expect the security forces to do? Continue to allow a band of criminals to continue to hold our country hostage? They had to act. The criminals wanted war - $100 per day they paid other gang members from across the island to join the war. We don't yet know who the 26 people dead are. Let's wait for more info. If as the report says they were near barricades and in the gullies then I think we may have gotten some of the gunmen...its a sad story but war is not without casualty.
5/25/2010
Una Quee how will assistance help? Don't you see Police are doing what they have to do.
To those who are counting, Didn't you see the Police exercise 5 days of restraint? IN fact the use of the word "Civilians" in this article is reckless and is an attempt to besmirch the Police
5/25/2010
Well they said they will die for Dudus, so be my guess.
5/25/2010
Causuality in war is inevitable. Who started the war? Shame on the PM for not asking for internation assistance when it is obvious things are out of his hands.
5/25/2010
Lex no time for bleeding heart. Civilian includes gunmen, or anyone who is not part of official security forces. It is what it is. I am pretty sure some may want him dead, but trust me the Police want him alive.
5/25/2010
As a people we should not make this a political issue. Please understand that "two wrongs does not make a right". Stand together as Jamaicans and not as PNP or JLP. The fact is that none is better than the other. You can't even decide to chose the better of the two evil simply because as I said before, none is better than the other. A criminal is a criminal and I am not casting judgment because I realy don't know the facts; but if what is said is true then one should be treated as such. Ask the question. Is it worth it for a nation to suffer for action of one person? Is he God? Jamaicans wake up. Seize the opportunity to make our nation a better place. Support the authorities in their quest to flush out evil. I pray that they would also go to other communities and do the same. Enough is enough. We are only destroying our beautiful island with senseless violence. Thanks to the praying citizens. That's what is keeping God from doing something drastic in Jamaica.
5/25/2010
Lex Diamond: are you and idiot or what, men firing high powered weapons at the security forces and you expect them to be spared from been killed. It is persons like you why Jamaica is in the position it is today.
5/25/2010
25 dead, 26 injured, 211 detained. Since law abiding citizens obeyed and left the area, then it can be recorded that the 262 were criminals/gang members.
5/25/2010
These casualties are direct result of bungling by the GOJ!
Let us hear what Golding will have to say this afternoon. Though I suppose it will be as hollow as his last address.
If he thinks he is going to hide behind standing orders both he and Delroy Chuck have another guess coming.
5/25/2010
Rrainne Pheonix, i hope you understand that kids live in those area.
I know what you don't like kids, you wish they die right?
5/25/2010
Lex Diamond,
They have to civilian, as as far as I know there is no uniform military group in Jamaica, other than the JDF
What did you expect, dead soldiers ?
5/25/2010
@Lex. Diamond. These civilians were gun men you know sir. They were firing on the security forces. Certainly you cannot expect the security forces to take all the casualties. War is a dirty business and the security forces had to act in order to protect the state.
5/25/2010
Well they said they would die for Dudus, so need to feel sorry for them now or try to cast aspersions on the security forces. If they have arrested women so be it , for too long the women have been encouraging and aiding and abbeting the men in their criminalities, so need to cry for justice for them. They are reaping it now.
5/25/2010
In wrath remember mercy.
5/25/2010
They soon will be attacking the base of operations. The GOJ needs to officially request US assistance as the very existence of the Jamaican State is under sustained threat.

26 Dead...26 Dead OMG what have they done.....the protector of the country went into Tivoli for Dudus using Lethal Force and killed 26 civilians.....and no Dudus...is anybody paying attention here, where is the intelligence, where is the logic? who are they trying to fool? why do the govt now wants to kill Dudus so badly? where is the Observer and the Gleaner now in condemning the tactics used....how does one justify killing 26 people (I'm sure the figure is higher)....something is awfully smelly here.....how do we change Bruce....what the hell will he say to the People now....Mr Seaga your people need you now more than ever. Rrainne you don't understand the people, they barricaded because they didn't want to be invaded by the police, The roads that lead into TG leads no where else, why the rush, there were so many other options than killing 26. Dudus knew it would happen that's why he left, Bruce fr one laborite to another.....you are over...you are over
5/25/2010
Lex Diamond be quiet do you think all those that were killed are honest law abiding citezen who was just going about their business and was shot and kill by the security forces it seems that you condone unlawful behaviour, well for me its a step in the right direction keep doing your job security force clean the city of these lawless human beings by all means necessary.
5/25/2010
All these dead are on the hands Orette Bruce Golding. Blame politics as much as you want , this is one man's doing.Lex Diamond , the security forces are defending themselves, apparently you are not up to date on whats going on. The offensive was started by the thugs .It's very sad that it has to come to this but these people vowed to defend Dudus with their lives.
5/25/2010
This is a defining moment in the country's history where the opportunity has been afforded to severly hurt this monster crime
Jamaica will survive and will be the better because history proves that it is virtually impossible for an individual to hold a country hostage for any extended period of time
5/25/2010
Good job my security forces, keep on doing your job there are many more to be taken in and charge. Please dont just question them then let them go do thourogh background checks and ensure none escape the cluches of the law.
5/25/2010
This is sobering. The is chilling. This is troubling. It seems this is a necessary evil. The politics of war now comes under the radar. The innocent are dying with the guilty. We saw it coming; we were helpless to stop it. The politicians knew it; they were helpless to stop it. The world expected it; they cared less about stopping it. God foresaw it; he has done nothing about it. How could civilized humans, who claim that they are above savage beats of the field, come to this?
5/25/2010
This only proves that the only reason Bruce signed the extradition papers was because he knew Dudus was already gone. 26 bodies and counting and Dudus is nowhere to be found. I am now wondering why these people gave up their lives for a man who was not prepared to die for his cause. The police and soldiers that lost their lives did so with wrong information. The JLP and the Govt "one in the same" knew Dudus was already safely out of Tivoli. Now the human sheilds are paying the ultimate price. This must be a lesson to people in Tivoli and all comminty lkewise, please when this is over to move on find a place to live where its not a Garrison. The mortality rate in Garrison communities is not the same as the general communities. Condolences to the Police and Soldier's families, but your family members died fighting the good fight. They died upholding law and order and trying make a better place for younger jamaicans to live. Free on the controls of the "Dons" RIP all civilians and law men
5/25/2010
why they don't just come out and tell everyone that it over 45 dead, including 6 kids and 7 women, that the way to Jamaica. one thing i know is that in the heart of these kids around these area is getting harder and you Jamaican are not doing anything to help them. Reading these comments i find it hard to understand why you jamaica want kids to die, knowing that what happen yesterday will come to that. y'll need to look into yourselves. To me y'll are just like that man (Dudus) a dick and a ass
5/25/2010
In a situation like this its hard to tell who is civillian from criminal. As for as I'm concerned the civilians were already evacuated.
5/25/2010
26 Dead...26 Dead OMG what have they done.....the protector of the country went into Tivoli for Dudus using Lethal Force and killed 26 civilians.....and no Dudus...is anybody paying attention here, where is the intelligence, where is the logic? who are they trying to fool? why do the govt now wants to kill Dudus so badly? where is the Observer and the Gleaner now in condemning the tactics used....how does one justify killing 26 people (I'm sure the figure is higher)....something is awfully smelly here.....how do we change Bruce....what the hell will he say to the People now....Mr Seaga your people need you now more than ever
5/25/2010
This is all very worrying! Living in London, how am I going to tell my six year old son that I can't tell him whether or not his siblings are safe? How do I explain that his brother won't be able to have a birthday party as the troubles have spread?
I know it must be worse for all of you in the midst of it, but if you can, let us know that you are as safe as you can possibly be under the circumstances.
And know, that our prayers are with all of you, at this most distressing time!
5/25/2010
I pray for an outcome we all can live with. For the love of Jamaica give up yourself and prove your innocence in court not in the streets. Enough blood as been shed. Give up yourself and spare the people that seem to love you. Jamaica land we all love!
5/25/2010
Their wishes were answered.
5/25/2010
I have a strong feeling those civilians who are mostly men were probably gunmen. If it wasn't, my condolence to the families. I wish the innocent people of these areas would have evacuated when they had the chance to. Based on the findings by the law enforcement, i would say good job so far.
5/25/2010
Are these Dudus "soldiers"?
They have paid the ultimate price as they said they would.
I hope they have setup an outer perimeter to catch those who escaped the onslaught.
We need to rid the area and other areas of these criminals, they must never be allowed to regroup.
Check the floors on the ground floor, that's were most of the guns and ammunition are being stored, along with the sewers.
5/25/2010
This was inevitable, we suspect that many would be killed, some innocently, but this is what happen when there is a war. People can callit waht they want but htis is an all out civil war going on in jJamaica. However, the nation cannot depend on the security forces to give us the news the media MUST be allowed to cover this story and report it to the nation. Humanitarian assistance must be rpovide for the people of Tivoli. I have said it before and I will say it again the entire Tivoli is not criminal and as such we cannot take the attitude that every one there deserves to die, and like I have said before many are just victims of of certain circumstances.

Worst, civil war and massacre, in Jamaica history since 1938.
How this got to be,like this.
and How we encourage this?
We see, families who are i n the army, pitcure.
We fear for them ,than more we fear for `Golding supoorters?
Jack Mandora,we cannot this? .
5/25/2010
Well done my people keep it up, mash down the Garrisons, tear up the criminals, destroy any place were the crawl, even if the dog a carry gun, dun dat to... enuff is enuff, casualties will happen, there is no excuse for their behaviour. I have no pity for them how do you baracade yourself in and then beg for mercy!! stop being one sided and start to see the light , what are you all agry about that you would like to destroy this country.
5/25/2010
Well, they did say they were willing to die for him ... guess they weren't kidding.
5/25/2010
